Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chrysta Nichols. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chrysta, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I sharpened my content creation skills through a combination of formal education and hands-on experience, with YouTube being a significant teacher. My choice to major in multimedia journalism in college was driven by my interest in improving my video production for social media platforms.
Initially, I relied on iMovie for video editing, but later, I transitioned to Adobe Premiere Pro, thanks to my college courses and my internship at the Raleigh News & Observer. I firmly believe that a content creator’s on-screen presence and proficiency in video editing are important, as they are crucial in captivating and maintaining the audience’s interest.
Nevertheless, I encountered obstacles along the way. Time constraints have been a challenge, juggling the demands of my school extracurricular commitments, and the need for personal time, family, and friendships. Achieving a balance between these responsibilities and my passion for content creation remains a continuous endeavor.
In hindsight, I recognize strategies that could have expedited my learning process, such as taking risks and not being afraid of trying new things. Being uncomfortable is how I’m going to achieve success so I can learn to be good at anything.
Ultimately, improving as a content creator is an ongoing journey. I’m proud of my journey so far and I am excited about where I going.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who may not be familiar with me, I’m a content enthusiast known as TheRealChrysta on YouTube, and around my campus at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, I’m recognized as a student who’s constantly creating content. I’m currently in my third year of pursuing a degree in multimedia journalism at the largest HBCU in the nation. Alongside my academic journey, I’m deeply involved in various campus organizations and hold media-related positions within them.
My content primarily revolves around my life as a college student at NCAT, motivation, and relatable topics. My venture into YouTube began during my freshman year of college, and what sets me apart is my niche as a college student at NCAT and my unwavering passion. When viewers come to my channel, I want them to feel like they’re connecting with a friend, someone relatable who’s on a shared journey. What I’m most proud of is my self-belief; I’m my own biggest supporter, which fuels my determination to pursue my dreams as a content creator.
For potential subscribers, I want them to know that the person behind the camera is simply navigating her college years while relentlessly chasing her dream of becoming a prominent content creator. I want my audience to see my dedication, drive, and the hard work I pour into the content I produce. Ultimately, my vision extends beyond personal success; I aspire to use my platform to amplify the voices of those who are underrepresented. My goal is to make a meaningful impact through my content, whether it’s bringing joy to someone’s day or creating videos that give others a voice.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a clear and firm goal.: achieving a life where I can sustain myself through the content I create. The ultimate aspiration is to wake up each day and passionately engage in what I love most. Knowing that this lies ahead serves as my driving force to keep going.
To achieve this, I am committed to continuous improvement through webinars, YouTube videos, and diligent research. Though I may be a small player in this vast landscape, I draw inspiration from the fact that those who are now successful were once in my shoes. The important thing is knowing that I have the power to make my dreams come true, and that keeps me motivated to keep going.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most fulfilling aspect of being a content creator is when strangers approach me to express their enjoyment of my content. It’s an incredible feeling to know that people who have no personal connection to me are supporting my work. This has happened a few times on campus, and each time, it deeply touches me. I invest a significant amount of dedication and effort into my content, and at times, it might seem like it goes unnoticed. However, I am genuinely grateful for those who engage with what I create. My motivation comes from my passion, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see that others share that love for what I do.
