We recently connected with Jessica Cooley and have shared our conversation below.
Jessica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
To start, taking risks was never a journey I wanted to take. I always thought that situations had to be perfect before I would make decisions. I hated the unknown. Growing up in the military I only knew structure, so as I grew up, risk taking was a huge “No!”.
My story began with me going to esthetics school in my late 30’s. My children were grown and my husband was getting closer to retirement from the Air Force after 30 years. It was my turn to bring home the bacon. Esthetics was a dream of mine since I was a young teenager and now I was doing it. I got my license and then opened my own successful solo practice. For 3 years, I was living my dreams out loud, then COVID shutdowns happened.
COVID was the worst thing and best thing to happen to me. I had clients contacting me about new skin concerns that they were having. They were purchasing needling & dep channeling devices off of Amazon and then not understanding why their skin wasn’t doing the same thing it would do when I would perform the same treatment. This was because ONLY professionals should be able to get their hands on these devices. Professionals know what to look for while performing these treatments. It got me thinking “How can I keep my clients OFF of Amazon?” That was when Skin Wand Pro was born.
Mid COVID shutdown I came up a tool that was safe for clients to use at home and still get those professional results at home. Where is the risk, you ask? I knew this was something new to the professional beauty world and I knew professionals would reject the concept of retailing a tool that gives pro results and basically replacing them. Which this was not the case. I tried to fight this uphill battle for a year. The Skin Wand Pro won multiple awards for the results it garnered, in hopes that the professional world would accept it. This was such a slow growing process. Then I thought, why not go direct to consumer?
Here is the BIGGEST risk. Getting the public to see the value and then also being able to sell direct to the beauty junkies, fashion forward, beauty influencers of the world. How would it be perceived? All I had to do was think like the consumer and it will blow up, so I thought. Breaking out into the consumer world, I was in for a rude awakening. Consumers today are so informed and very savvy about what they purchase. At the same time, they aren’t interested in the fancy lingo from the beauty industry. They only want the “meat & potatoes” and instant results. Learning to adjust to this was harder than I thought.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jessica and I’m CEO of Skin Wand Pro. I am a licensed Esthetics Instructor in South Carolina. For the past 23 years I have been a military spouse and for most of that time I have also been in retail management. I also have 2 fabulous grown children.
Skin Wand Pro was born during the COVID shutdowns of 2020. It is an award winning at home nano infusion pen. IT is the #1 Infusion pen in the beauty industry and has now been launched into the consumer market. Nano Infusion is similar to microneedling, but has no pain, bleeding, or downtime. The pen creates microscopic channels in the skin directing serums deeper into the skin where it is needed most. The channels also trigger the healing response which forces collagen repair and rebuilding. Ultimately plumping fine lines & wrinkles, fades hyperpigmentation, smooths skin overall tone & texture.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One huge lesson I had to unlearn was creating, speaking, or interacting like I was with other estheticians. This was the hardest thing I has to do. I had to reteach myself to see my company like a consumer. These folks need to hear and see the “meat & potatoes” of the subject. For the longest time, I was acting as if I was in a room full of estheticians that I had to convince they needed this amazing device. Consumers are totally different group of people. They are so fabulous, because the beauty junkie of today, is smart and has already researched you and your product before they ask questions or even purchase.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The shift in thinking on my part was the best thing I ever forced myself to learn and execute. Though, this process was a slow and painful one, I was able to create a brand environment that has increased our visibility and also a trust with our customers. Change is always a hard pill to swallow, but most of the time, with consistency it ends up becoming the most amazing choice to make.
