We recently connected with Carlos Atila and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Carlos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My mission is to elevate women’s confidence and make them feeling good with themselves. Since I’m a kid I always had passion for hair , but watching my favorite aunt being abused and treated like a trash by her husband made me think on how I’d make things change , not only to her by to all the women out there who’s being suffering in so many ways, being a stylist and a salon owner gave me the power to elevate this women confidence in so many ways , the most grateful thing when I finish the hair and some of them are In tears and telling me that I changed their life is what keeps me motivated to do my best each day , seeing the after they did their hair and got a bust to keep going after a break up , after a trauma , fighting a disease, or any other thing that make them down , our mission it’s not only to do hair , by change the history on this women’s life !
Carlos , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As long as I loved hair since I’m a kid , I never took this career serious and I never thought on doing this for life , maybe because I’d care so much about peoples opnion telling me that this is not a relevant career and I’d never be successful being a stylist because I didn’t need a degree for that , but at some point in my life , after a break up I decided to start the hair course, and since then I changed my perspective on this beautiful career , and so after 6 years as I stylist I decided to open my own salon , as I could never agree with many salon owners who would never know that we are besides doing hair , we are also dealing with peoples expectations.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Nowadays things took a different direction on the beauty industry , where people are not asking anymore for your business card but instead they ask for your Instagram , so focusing on social media was definitely a game changer on my business .
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
After one years that I moved to LA from Colorado I opened my business , but I was saving money for about 3 years to accomplish that , it’s important to research and also hear stories and get advices from other business owners , your can’t do thing only by yourself, charging information and helping each other is key , when I opened my salon a had 4 chairs and was only me working , and people would ask why do a need 4 chairs , but I was so focused on making it a successful business that after 1 year that we opened we are now moving to a bigger location and with 10 chairs and a team of 11 people , that was only possible because of my hard work and marketing strategies.
