We recently connected with Alyssa Pallant and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alyssa, thanks for joining us today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
It’s really hard to say what I would do differently. When I first started modeling around 18 years old. I started modeling in the car industry and learn pretty quickly, how hard it was to do well in that industry. Fashion was always a passion of mine, but I didn’t think I had a choice in doing so. What I would do differently is not to niche myself as a car model at the beginning, but more towards a fashion model who did car modeling in her free time for fun. If I started out in fashion modeling, I think I would’ve gotten a lot further with it than I am now and would’ve had a lot more experience working with higher level brands

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As I mentioned prior, I started in the car world when I was just 18 years old modeling with different modified cars. A lot of times it was European or Japanese cars but sometimes American muscle too. What really got me started was my boyfriend at the time was a photographer and thought it would be something that I would enjoy doing and got me in front of the camera. I learn very quickly how much I love doing it and how much confidence it helped give me as it was something I lacked at the time. I focus on modeling out a bunch of different car shows in doing paid work for one on one car enthusiasts.
It was hard to set myself a part in the modeling world, but I felt having the niche of a car model sent me a part from a lot of other models. There were plenty of people that modeled, but there is only so many that had the knowledge in the automotive field as well. This benefited me tremendously so that when I work shows I was able to better explain the cars I was modeling.
I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to do this freelance for many years and didn’t need an agency to help me succeed.

Have you ever had to pivot?
A great time of when I had to learn to pivot in my business, was leaving the car, modeling world and getting into the fashion industry. Although there is a lot of fashion models, I found a niche specifically in western fashion that I thoroughly enjoyed. Although I still car model once in a while, western fashion has become the main course of my modeling.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One of the most effective strategies I found for growing my clientele is social media. When Tik Tok came out, I didn’t quite get the point of it but I’ve learned quickly that I can make a profit from it in by posting my fashion and lifestyle on there I was able to connect with more brands. Another thing with regard to social media is following similar accounts to get ideas but also supporting those accounts. Support those that support you and vice versa.
