Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sadé Payne. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sadé , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
It was always a dream of mine to have my work in luxurious interiors, to the extent that I started creating my own reality by placing my paintings in interior mockups, to give my audience and potential clients a visual to how owning an Energetic Artz painting can transform their space or add to their aesthetic. However, I never imagined that my work would have been chosen to grace the front desk of a hotel.
In late April of 2023 I was afforded the opportunity to create two large scale seascape paintings for the front desk area at the luxurious Hilton Barbados Resort, through the recommendation of Carla Daniel, Director of The Barbados Sea Turtle Project.
After a successful meeting with the general manager Mr. Jacques Monteil to discuss his vision along with the viewing of the space, I created a digital mockup capturing the turbulent tides of Little Bay and the harmonious blues of the sea especially surrounding the Hilton Resort.
Having total artistic freedom over the creative process, I wanted to give my client a composition that could transition into a whole but also stand on its own individually. The refraction and reflection of light along with conveying the slipperiness of the rocks were crucial components to the composition.
Although creating large scale seascapes often brings excitement to me, I must admit that working on two 36×80 inches canvases caused a bit of intimidation. This has now become the biggest size I have worked on to date.
During the process I was privileged to receive input and critiques from my close friends and mentors Mr. John Springer, Mr. Neville Legal and Mr. Tracy Greenidge, especially when I found myself experiencing an artist block.
For me the biggest challenge throughout this project was space to work since my bedroom is my creative space. Therefore, I had to work on one individual piece at a time switching them in and out during the process. Often, I had to navigate from my bedroom through the narrow corridor to the gallery, or sometimes to the fencing by the house to align the paintings together to critique, along with ensuring the tonal values flowed equally in both paintings. Thanks to the assistance from my parents Mrs. Denise Payne and Mr. Ron Payne the maneuvering of the paintings were quite manageable especially when the rain visited unexpectedly.
Overall, this project is meaningful to me because it showcases my resilience and ability to make the best out of my circumstances to produce quality at its fullest.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a 26-year-old Barbadian fine artist specializing in acrylic on canvas paintings which capture the tumultuousness of the sea. The rugged east and north coast of Barbados along with the rip-roaring shore breaks of Hawaii are my sources of inspiration.
Energetic Artz a now ocean inspired business offering large scale wave paintings for both commercial and residential spaces, was initially founded in 2015 as a Facebook forum to keep track of my artistic growth, as I harnessed the skills acquired from the Associate Degree in Visual Arts program from the Barbados Community College combined with my experiments.
While most seascapes often hint activity among people, the swaying of coconut trees, fisherman at sea and the sailing of boats upon the horizon, my work offers a closeness of how I experience the turbulent tides. Appreciation and mindfulness are all qualities I aim to communicate to my audience through my paintings with bold palette knife and gestural brushstrokes, that depict the movement of the waters.
Be Intriguingly Bold is the slogan that both myself and Energetic Artz pride ourselves to offer to every client and customer, turning visions into new creations.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being a creative has gifted me the freedom of expression to discover and embrace my true self. Most of all I am happy that I can make a living out of what I am great at and feel so passionate about. Seeing the smiles my seascapes put on my clients’ faces are one of the most rewarding aspects an artist could truly ask for.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Honestly speaking, I wouldn’t really consider myself that social media savvy especially when it relates to Instagram. However, I have developed a strong forum on Facebook through my personal page.
Although art is a business, it is something more personal for me, therefore instead of primarily focusing on selling a painting, I choose to emphasize the emotions and passions I share with my audience. By allowing them to be a part of my personal page, they get an inside perspective of my life as an artist and what fuels my passion.
Individuality and accountability are the key qualities to have on any social media forum.
