We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicole Ward. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicole below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
You really just have to apply yourself in order to earn a full-time living in this industry. Anyone can go to school and learn the basics but not everybody that goes to school is motivated enough to build from those basics. Getting into this industry is hard there’s sacrifices you have to make you have to be willing to take corrective criticism, knowing you’re going to mess up for a little bit before you get good.. sucks.
learning how to interact with people and learning how to control your self and your emotions is hard but these are all part of the growth you have to have in order to get consistent and comfortable.
Money is constantly coming in and out. It’s everywhere you can make money doing just about anything but if you want to make consistent comfortable income you gotta put the work in the harder you work the better you’ll get.
The better you are, the more people will want to sit in your chair.
So old fashion hard work consistency. And staying educated That’s how you make a full-time living in this career.
Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Nicole Ward. I am a 30 year old internationally published men’s cutting and grooming specialist from San Diego California, who is currently located in West Hollywood at the barber den la , California. I’ve been licensed for 13 years. The services I provide include men’s haircutting( clipper & scissor cuts ) , beard trims (shaves), & most color services. Besides all the publications and Note-oriety I have received over the past 13 years. I am most proud of my continuous growth and my efforts to always “do more and learn more” If I had yo put a label my brand based on my skills I’d say fast, efficient and consistent. But based on client experience I’d say memorable, personable and well talked care of.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I feel most rewarded when I provide a service that makes a client feel good about themselves, or helps them resurface their confidence. There isn’t anything involved in being a barber that is all about yourself , because it’s about other people feeling good about what you are working hard at and when you make people feel good , you feel great!
How did you build your audience on social media?
By Diving deeper into education through social media, and just connecting with other barbers, and brands, I was able to build an audience on my social media. My advice is to just stay authentic. Don’t let what you see on the Internet interpret everything you do because if you do exactly what everybody else is doing, there’s no originality to that. Being consistently seen is always a positive way to encourage people to follow you, but I met a lot of people not just on the Internet but in person so get yourself out there promote yourself hand out your business cards the more people that interact with you and see your spirit and your individuality the more people will want to be a part of your brand.
