We recently connected with Kimberly Cannon and have shared our conversation below.
Kimberly, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I have been focusing more of my time on education, Through teaching I am able to share my knowledge and inspire many hairdressers who may have not had access to the type of education I received.
Cosmetology school is extremely dated, there is a huge need to modernize the material covered. Most stylists will graduate with only a fraction of what they need. Larger cities like LA and New York have amazing apprenticship programs but that is only accessible for those who can afford to live there. By teaching classes in my salon in Pennsylvania as well as through social media I feel that I am able to share my knowledge from working in large salons in NY with colorists who wouldn’t easily have access to it.

Kimberly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kimberly Cannon and I am a hair colorist who has worked in New York City’s most prestigious salons including Sally Hershberger, Marie Robinson, and now splitting my time between Mark Ryan Salon in NYC and Jay Michael Salon in Philadelphia. I am passionate about creating dimensional, vibrant color as well as always ensuring that I build enduring relationships with my clients.
I believe my consultation style that sets me apart, I preface each color service with a collaborative discussion on the desired result and custom program to achieve results while maintaining overall hair health.
I specialize in balayage and am so happy warm hair is back on trend!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me has been consistency. Showing up for your clients, by being on time, looking the part, and being able to deliver results that meet their expectations. It is very important to listen to them and take notes so that at each appointment you are prepared and can continue to provide a great service,

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I really loved Delivering Happiness, I feel I try to always model their customer service philosophy,
