We were lucky to catch up with Chris Glasper recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Starting my clothing brand was a journey that stemmed from a deep passion for self-expression and a desire to make a positive impact in the fashion industry. It all began several years ago when I found myself dissatisfied with the limited options available in the market. I felt that the industry lacked diversity, individuality, and a genuine connection with the customers.
The catalyst for my clothing brand came during a trip I took to a bustling city. As I wandered through the streets, observing the vibrant mix of cultures, styles, and personalities, I realized that fashion should be more than just a means of covering our bodies. It should be a powerful tool for self-expression, a way to showcase our unique identities and beliefs to the world.
Inspired by this revelation, I started researching the fashion industry extensively. I discovered a gap that needed to be filled—a void where creativity, sustainability, and inclusivity intersected. While some brands were addressing one or two of these aspects, none were fully embracing all of them. This realization ignited a fire within me, and I knew I had to create a clothing brand that would offer something truly unique and meaningful.
The emotions that fueled my journey were a mix of excitement, determination, and a touch of apprehension. I felt excited about the prospect of bringing my vision to life and creating a brand that would resonate with like-minded individuals. I was determined to challenge the status quo and prove that fashion could be both ethically produced and aesthetically stunning. However, I also felt a tinge of apprehension because I knew that starting a clothing brand from scratch would be a daunting task requiring relentless dedication and hard work.
The logic behind my endeavor was rooted in both market analysis and personal conviction. Through my research, I identified a growing demand for sustainable and inclusive fashion. People were becoming more conscious of the environmental impact of the industry and were seeking alternatives that aligned with their values. I saw this as an opportunity to create a brand that not only met the needs of the market but also aligned with my own ethos.
Moreover, I firmly believed that fashion had the power to inspire confidence, spark conversations, and drive positive change. By offering unique designs that celebrated diversity and sustainable practices, I was not only solving a problem that no one else was fully addressing but also contributing to a larger movement towards a more conscious and inclusive fashion industry.
The core of my brand’s philosophy revolved around celebrating individuality and embracing the beauty of our differences. I aimed to offer a range of clothing that catered to a diverse range of body types, skin tones, and personal styles. By doing so, I wanted to empower individuals to express themselves authentically and confidently.
The idea of creating a clothing brand that championed sustainability, inclusivity, and individuality was what excited me the most. I envisioned a future where people from all walks of life could find clothing that truly reflected their unique identities, while also knowing that their fashion choices were making a positive impact on the planet.
In conclusion, my clothing brand was born out of a desire to revolutionize the fashion industry by offering a truly unique and meaningful experience. Through the intersection of sustainability, inclusivity, and individuality, I aimed to fill a gap in the market and create a brand that resonated with like-minded individuals. The journey was driven by passion, research, and a belief in the transformative power of fashion, and I was excited to embark on this worthwhile endeavor.

Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
“I take pride in creating all of my designs from scratch. However, recently I have started collaborating with other artists to bring to life some ideas that I feel I couldn’t execute on my own. It has been an exciting and fruitful experience working together and combining our unique perspectives and skills.
When it comes to manufacturing, I initially didn’t have extensive knowledge in the manufacturing process. As my designs gained popularity and demand increased, I realized the need to find a reliable vendor who could bring my creations to life. It was a crucial step in scaling up my business and meeting the growing customer demands.
Finding the right manufacturing partner was a journey in itself. I conducted thorough research and reached out to various vendors to assess their capabilities, quality standards, production capacity, and pricing. It was essential for me to find a manufacturer who not only understood my vision but also had the technical expertise to produce high-quality products.
After evaluating multiple options, I found a vendor who aligned perfectly with my requirements. They had a solid reputation, a track record of delivering exceptional craftsmanship, and a willingness to collaborate closely throughout the manufacturing process. Building a strong relationship with my manufacturing partner was crucial, as it allowed us to work together seamlessly and ensure the final product met my expectations.
Throughout this manufacturing journey, I have learned valuable lessons. First and foremost, clear communication is key. It is essential to articulate your design specifications, quality standards, and timelines effectively to avoid any misunderstandings. Regular communication with the manufacturer helps address any potential issues promptly, ensuring a smooth production process.
Additionally, it’s crucial to conduct thorough quality control checks at every stage of manufacturing. Regular inspections and testing help maintain consistency and ensure that the final product meets the desired standards.
Overall, manufacturing my products has been a challenging yet rewarding experience. It has taught me the importance of collaboration, research, and effective communication. By combining my creative vision with the expertise of my manufacturing partner, I have been able to bring my ideas to life and deliver high-quality products to my customers.”

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
“One of the most challenging aspects of my creative journey was learning not to become emotionally attached to my designs. As an artist, it’s natural to have a personal connection and a sense of pride in the work we create. However, I quickly realized that not everyone shares the same taste or preferences as me.
It was a difficult lesson to learn when I noticed that some of the designs I didn’t particularly favor were actually performing better than the ones I was truly passionate about. It made me question my own judgment and forced me to reevaluate my approach.
I had to remind myself that art and design are subjective, and what appeals to me may not resonate with others. It was crucial to separate my personal preferences from the objective feedback and market response. Instead of solely relying on my own taste, I started paying close attention to customer feedback, market trends, and data-driven insights.
By embracing this mindset, I was able to let go of my attachments and approach my designs with a more open and flexible mindset. It allowed me to explore different styles, experiment with diverse concepts, and cater to a wider audience.
Although it was initially challenging to detach myself emotionally from my designs, I began to appreciate the value of creating for a diverse audience. It opened up new opportunities and helped me understand the importance of designing for different tastes and preferences. I learned to embrace the concept of versatility and adaptability in my creative process.
Ultimately, this experience taught me to be more resilient and adaptable as an artist. It reinforced the notion that success in the creative field is not solely dependent on personal preferences but rather finding a balance between artistic expression and meeting the needs of the target audience. By staying open-minded and receptive to feedback, I have been able to grow and evolve as a designer, continuously refining my craft to create designs that resonate with a broader range of people.”
