Venavir , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My very first client was an unexpected but incredibly special encounter. It all began with my inaugural art exhibition, where I poured my heart into a collection inspired by their food and culture. Several months later, I participated in an art pop-up event, unaware that my first client would grace me with their admiration. The artwork in question was priced at a high sum I initially felt unworthy of. They went on to share the story of how they had first encountered my work during that art debut and were immediately captivated by it. What made this encounter even more remarkable was that my first client was not just an art enthusiast but also an artist in their own right—a culinary artist. This served as a profound expression of our mutual appreciation and gratitude for reaching a milestone I had dreamt of since becoming an artist.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Through my art, I offer a glimpse into the profound emotional journey I embarked upon at a young age. The interplay of black and white speaking to the human spirit, the capacity to find beauty and meaning even in the most challenging circumstances. This is an invitation for others to reflect upon their own constraints, emotional or physical, and to discover the transformative power of creative expression through any type of art. Today, the wealth of experiences and emotions I have accumulated serves as the driving force propelling me onward in my artistic journey.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
About a year ago, I embarked on a challenging artistic project that was deeply personal and emotionally demanding. The concept was ambitious, and the execution required countless hours of work, dedication, and unwavering commitment. As I delved into the project, I faced numerous obstacles along the way, from technical difficulties to self-doubt and creative blocks. There came a point when it felt like the universe was conspiring against me. Working with the client proved to be exceptionally difficult, as they had never collaborated with a young female artist before. I sunk with feelings of underappreciation, fueling doubts about the worth of my work. I encountered setbacks that seemed insurmountable, and there were moments when I questioned whether I should abandon the project altogether. It was during these trying times that my resilience was put to the test.
Instead of giving in to despair, I dug deep and found the strength to persevere. I sought help and guidance from mentors and peers, learning new techniques and gaining fresh perspectives. I pushed through the self-doubt and frustration, reminding myself of the passion and purpose that had initially fueled my project.
Through sheer determination and an unyielding belief in my vision, I gradually overcame each obstacle one by one. It was a slow and arduous journey, but I refused to let adversity define me or dictate the outcome of my work. I channeled my setbacks into opportunities for growth and learning, and with each challenge I conquered, my resilience only grew stronger.
Ultimately, I completed the project, and the sense of accomplishment was unlike anything I had ever experienced. It was a testament to my unwavering commitment and resilience in the face of adversity. This experience taught me that no matter how tough the road may be, with determination and resilience, I can overcome any obstacle and continue to thrive in my artistic journey.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that I had to unlearn is the notion that my work must always be flawless or perfect. Since my childhood, society has often placed a heavy emphasis on achieving perfection, and this has led me to become overly critical of my own work. This self-imposed pressure to create flawless art, stifled my creativity, hindered my experimentation, and ultimately limited my artistic growth, growing up.
In reality, art is a deeply personal and subjective form of expression. It was always important for me to recognize that imperfections, mistakes, and even failures are an integral part of my creative process, and now, I embrace it. This realization has led me to unexpected self-discoveries, breakthroughs and has pushed me to explore new techniques and ideas.
Embracing the imperfections in my work frees me from the constraints of perfectionism and allows me to take risks and push through the boundaries of my creativity. It’s essential to unlearn the idea that every piece of art must meet an unattainable standard of perfection and instead embrace the beauty and authenticity that imperfections can bring to my work.
