We recently connected with Christian Trujillo and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Taking it back to day one ,year 2014 it all started with a bunch of friends roaming the streets in the famous east los angeles. Driving our trucks down whittier and beverly boulevard . Our circle wanted to establish a cool and simple name ,so we all agreed on V8ghts . The reason for that name was because for the most part we all had 8 cylinder trucks so it sort of made sense at that time. Speeding up the process i got serious about making shirts for the public and wanted to bring it up a notch and make my vision realistic by publicizing it legally to the world. Unfortunately the (USPTO) United State and Trademark Office did not approve our name V8ghts to get legally publicized. So this is where the magic happened, Rich my brother at the time and myself came with the name Cruel for messed up that we didn’t get approved and Revolve to not give up on your dreams, get up and try again! Cruel=N=Revolve
Christian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Let me start of with my name SEENO, it all took place in middle school where graffiti at that time caught my attention when my pops would drive down the freeway , I would just glaze up at the walls filled with letters ,fonts and different color waves. I started drawing in black books and coming out with own unique style and started creating graffiti art. Sooner or later i develop my interest in the art industry and once i became very good at it a few years after getting caught up with the law in high school my did a 360. That is where i learned to use my skill for good use and slowly started getting in the business with skateboarding and a unique style with trucking and the streets. I took my skills to the next level ,printing and making my designs come to the life and that is where everything shifted for me.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Richy Rich aka Dahomierich , this guy has been around my life for at least 25 years, my brother. I brought him in the business with me because he was the one with some creative ideas without asking for any profit just wanting to share his knowledge. Eventually he started tagging along with me and started asking him for his opinions. His ideas in the music industry and hip hop culture with mine with the skateboarding and tagging scene just made it a perfect click! Little by little we became partners and til this day we run Cruel=N=Revolve.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Keep it all good vibes and make it like family ,where it doesn’t feel like work and you love what you do and that will never feel like you are working. Whatever issues you are going through up or lows ,communicate! that will go long term.
