We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ahkilah Armster a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ahkilah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
This vision is not my own. God is mastermind behind it all. When I was 12 years old God spoke to me and shared with me through my pastor, Bishop Smith, that I would be an entrepreneur. I kept that prophecy in mind but I began my undergraduate journey with the hopes of becoming a pediatrician. Early on in my academic career it was evident that being a medical student wasn’t the best for me. So I went back to the drawing board and prayed about what to do. God brought back to my remembrance what He spoke to me at age 12. It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I received the name. At this point, I’m 20 years old. I was sitting in my professional selling class and I hear “Armster Legacy Marketing” in my spirit. So I wrote on my class notes but at this point I still had no idea what the services it would be. I would pray briefly about it but I didn’t receive and answer in its entirety because school was my priority so I wasn’t praying fervently about it.
The concept of the business excites me. It is a purpose driven business. God is going to use us (speaking by faith) mightly in assisting other business in making faith moves to execute their God-given visions with excellence. What sets our business a part from others is that our goal is to combine faith-based principles and apply them to help people succeed in purpose.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Ahkilah and I am a proud child of God. I grew up in poverty. Over the years God cultivated my knack for graphics and marketing material. It all started when I was a little girl, I used to make the most intricate PowerPoint presentations. As I became an adult and explored various learning styles and material in college, I began to grow even more in this area.
Armster Legacy Marketing was created to be the bridge between your God-given visions/ideas to excellent execution. I’ve been blessed with the privilege to go to college and study marketing, marketing research and data analysis, management, strategic media and content creation. I have a master’s of science, a master’s of business administration and I’m currently working on a doctorate of business administration. My family always had all of these beautiful ideas but no resources to bring them to life. The goal of Armster Legacy Marketing is to be a vital resource for entrepreneurs taking the leap of faith to trust God and pursue their purpose through business. I have a wealth of knowledge and I want to share that with others so that we can spread light through the world. We all have dreams and visions for a reason so it’s imperative that we cultivate what we have been given! The services have a wide range. Right now, we’re specializing in assisting with making marketing material (any form of social media graphic, flyers, business cards etc.) and 1 on 1 meetings with me (I.e. ahkilah) are also available. These sessions are closely related to consulting services, where we can meet and analyze your marketing strategies while generating probable solutions! So that when you leave you have some practical steps to implement or our company can also provide the readily available services for you to use.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’m actually in the process of pivoting right now. I’m going back to the drawing board with God to get clarity on His vision for the business.
Currently, praying and partnering with Him about creating marketing material, how to market the business and ultimately learning how to be the first partaker in the goal of the business.
Backstory: I felt led to announce the launching of the business but I got ahead of myself because I didn’t seek God for clarity on what I should do as far as the website, services, etc. I had a marketing schedule and some nice concepts but it wasn’t producing any fruit (i.e. results). The state of your fruit is an indication of cultivation efforts (i.e. present/not present &/or successful/unsuccessful) , soil (I.e. foundation). God gave me a glimpse and I ran with it which isn’t good. So take it from me, do not lean onto your own understanding. Allow God to direct your paths.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
The greatest influence is the Bible. Examining God’s design and purpose for working. God uses His word to help me unlearn toxic mindsets and break patterns that would interfere with success such as laziness and procrastination.
Proverbs 16:3 is my favorite “commit your works to the Lord and your thoughts shall be established.”
Philippians 4:13 as well. “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
