Tamika, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

Taomi is a word that blends my name, Tamika, and my sister’s name, Naomi. Together, it is pronounced, “Tay-Omi.” The idea for Taomi Tea N Treats came from watching my mother make tea. She has always used tea for healing, self-enjoyment, and as a way to bond with friends and family.

As an adult, my mother still prepares her tea, sits on the couch, and enjoys a cup. Thus, the idea of starting a tea business was not surprising to me. Moreover, in my Haitian culture, tea is a healing foundation, and we use it for natural remedies, which are effective. As a child, I hosted my own pretend tea parties and sipped my tea from a small pink mug.

Even as a child, I recognized the beauty of what a cup of tea could do for someone. So, why did I want to start a tea business? The thought initially occurred to me for my mom, whose tea is delicious. However, the more I considered tea, the more I wanted to create a business for myself. I began to think about the healing benefits of tea and knew that if I started a tea business, I would name it “Taomi.”

The “Tea N Treats” component is critical because a delicious cup of tea reminds us to treat and care for ourselves. Additionally, tea has been a key element in my digestive healing and mental wellness.

In 2020, during the pandemic, I decided to share my love of tea and created blends that would help individuals care for their physical and mental well-being. Each blend I created addresses digestive issues, cold and flu symptoms, and much more. Furthermore, each blend promotes mental wealth, self-care, and brings great vibes when shared with friends and family. All blends have been crafted with love and healing in mind.

I am not only a singer/songwriter but also a passionate tea connoisseur. My journey into the world of tea began right at home, watching my mom prepare tea and witnessing the incredible healing benefits it offered. This profound connection inspired me to transform my love for tea into a thriving business, with the goal of sharing its healing magic with others. For me, tea is not just a beverage; it’s a way of life, and I proudly say, “Taomi Tea is life.”

How do you keep your team’s morale high?

My most significant piece of advice for effectively managing a team and keeping morale high is to consistently check in with yourself. Self-assessment is of paramount importance because when you’re doing well, your team is more likely to thrive. Additionally, I firmly believe in regularly revisiting and reinforcing our collective purpose. Maintaining a sense of purpose is absolutely essential for our team’s success.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I would certainly emphasize the importance of consistency and understanding your target audience. Having a deep understanding of your target demographic provides a clear roadmap for your social media content strategy. In the case of Taomi Tea N Treats, while we are still in the growth phase, we’ve successfully built an organic following through a combination of events, consistent posting, engaging reels, and word-of-mouth referrals.
