We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jenny Shih. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jenny below.
Hi Jenny, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I can easily be misunderstood as deviant or rejective. However l’ve learned to use this outsider viewpoint as a tool to be deliberate in choosing my energy, intent, and desire.
I’m actually conventional in many ways. People who personally get to know me are usually surprised by the contrast of how my creative work mixes in with my personal day-to-day self.
Another misunderstanding is my creative work comes from a negative place that lacks dignity and self-respect. It could not be further from the truth. A main benefit to pole dancing is gaining a steadfast resolve in personal power and voice.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I teach others how to tap into their inner, alter-ego that feels exciting, fun, and confident. My ability to tap into my own inner self when I dance, helps guide others on the possibility to experience sides of themselves that they love.
I own Inversion Dance Studios, a pioneering pole dancing studio (since 2009) that offers a getaway from conventional life. The team that serves this pole sanctuary have experienced empowerment from pole dancing and value supporting clients through the self-discovery journey.
Those who dance in our coven experience a special exhilaration of feeling sexy, strong, and confident.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Adding joy and inspiration to everyday action. Not feeling restricted to just following calculative logic.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
