Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steven Daily. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Steven, appreciate you joining us today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?

Here in la i’m labeled in the lowbrow, or pop surrealism, category. When my work couldnt be further from this genre of art. I use old baroque style techniques with contemporary subject and topics. That makes a truly unique and contemporary body of work.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, I’m Steven Daily artist, muralist, instructor, illustrator. I knew at a young age I wanted to be an artist. I looked at things differently than my piers.. I got into illustration with my buddy’s magazine which isn’t around anymore. He asked me for an illustration to go with a short story. Mural work came organically, i had been doing graffiti work in the streets for years, and was asked to do a mural for an arcade. Teaching i fell into again from a friend who was a admin at a media college. I did a talk and they offered me a job. I try to give the same level of skill and execution with every project. No matter the medium or company. I provide art work for graphics, illustrations, Gallery work, and murals.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I really just want to paint, and make cool stuffs until I die.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

Well i used to think climbing this invisible ladder, pyramid I was working towards some sort of success. And there was some great art watcher recording my every move. Life is not linear, it will throw you curve ball and change your path from feathers in your cap. To i didn’t see that coming. The journey is way more important, than the destination
