Mary, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?

The name One Word Encourage, LLC comes from my Breast Cancer treatment journey that began on October 16, 2013. This was a very dark time as I was newly married with a two-year old, and new position in Corporate. There was a lot of loss that includes right breast, hair, nails, weight, confidence, and memory. However, God placed people in my life who encouraged me to thrive. They spoke God’s Words of encouragement over me when I was unable to do so. The words spoken to us have impact because we adapt to the people around us. The words of strength, beauty, smart, courageous, warrior, walking miracle, winner, victorious, and so many more I began to mediate upon on and speak to myself. While undergoing radiation, I was asked by leadership to speak to ladies who were recently diagnosed and to share encouragement and information. This is when my passion started as a Breast Cancer Advocate that one encouraging word can make a difference. When people undergo traumatic experiences, we should listen and provide an encouraging word. One August 26, 2019, I rang the bell. What an amazing feeling that the treatment plan chapter was over. Then the following month, I left Corporate to follow my passion as Breast Cancer Advocate. On October 10, 2019, One Word Encourage, LLC started to serve the community globally sharing encouragement so people never forgetting the impact of one word of encouragement is transformational by what we study, speak, write, and wear.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?

Mary P. Wells is best known as The Encouragement Expert, an 8-year Breast Cancer Thriver. She is the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of One Word Encourage, LLC. The ministry focuses on sharing God’s Words of encouragement worldwide for people to thrive in all seasons of their lives through coaching, journals, jewelry, wearables, and so much more.

The One Word Encourage apparel and jewelry have encouraging messages when worn can empower their community that include: “Strong”, “Positivity & Peace”, “Newly Created”, “and Working Hands.” Also, 10-year-old son Kaleb who is a member of the team has a t-shirt line, “Be Blessed” and assists with photography and videos.

Mary is passionate about speaking about life to those impacted by their circumstances, including Breast Cancer. Recently the ministry launched the One Word Encouraged LLC Breast Cancer Awareness Essentials Kits to offer patients, caregivers, and families on the cancer journey together to receive helpful products to use as encouragement readily available to give them hope. What sets us apart is that we fulfill a need to provide encouragement not only to patients, but to caregivers, family members, and friends. The contents in the kit are lightweight, easy to travel to and from scheduled treatment appointments, and accessible in the home: BPA free double insulated plastic mason handled cup with straw, wipe cloth, refrigerator magnet, journal, a pen with illumination, STRONG lapel pin, mini skin package, and prayer card. The kits are offered at a bulk rate to hospitals, local bookstores, support groups, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations at a bulk cost. We are grateful to celebrate encouragement to thrive year-round in our global community.

Once COVID-19 occurred, encouragement is offered worldwide because we never faced the unknown which results in tremendous disease emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Mary is the International Best-Selling Author of the OWE Journal Trilogy Series. The 3-volume book starts with a circumstance that is the turning point in someone’s life that birth’s ministry and provides a foundation of strength through future cases. The tool is used by people worldwide, including in the Netherlands, journaling action plans to focus on the goal of Victory over circumstances, PROMISE to help your community, and to THRIVE daily.

Also, Mary is an inspiring sought-after Keynote Speaker speaking the truth from Breast Cancer testimonials and inspiring people to see their purpose through any challenge they face.

Currently, Mary is earning a second degree, Bachelor of Science Degree in Theology, Mission, and Ministry from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky who plans to become an ordained Chaplain.

Mary volunteers serving as a Chaplain, Community Partner, Honorary Member, Prayer Leader, and Support Facilitator of the Non-Profit Organization My Sister’s Keeper – Cleveland who support patients and family impacted by cancer. Mary volunteers serving as an Encouragement Writer to the Non-Profit Organization Women of Hope who support women incarnated and homeless veterans.

Mary’s most significant accomplishment is being a mother to her 10-year-old son Kaleb who is a Christian entrepreneur learning as legacy to lead our ministry. Another aspect of this most significant accomplishment is that both me and Kaleb were featured in the December 2022 Brainz Magazine Issue recognized for family entrepreneurship.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I built my social media audience the moment I realized my passion to encourage others with God’s Word going as far back as 2017. I went live on Facebook with son Kaleb sharing encouragement to everyone including scholars to give empowerment to thrive while in route to school and work. My husband drove as me, and Kaleb sat in the passenger seats. There was excitement from the audience’s engagement with feedback. Each day I receive valuable short content during time with God. I present authentic in posts, reels, and videos that are different such as just walking down the street with energy to shine my light while on the go. The audience has since grown social media audience has increased on Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Twitter, and WhatsApp. Also, I am the Host of the One Word Encourage Podcast which, we recently completed Season 3: “UNSTUCK.” on Anchor FM, Apple, Google, and Spotify. For those starting to build a social media presence my advice is to do the pre-work that includes know who you are, speaking and writing your story, defining the need to fulfill your way, determining your audience, updating SEO optimization, and setting 3 monthly goals to reach. Then bring onboard a social media strategist who has the same core values and is an expert at creating and implementing social media and marketing campaign strategies.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

Products and service offerings are sold only on Square under the professional package. The monthly fee is affordable, and the customer service and technical support teams are excellent in providing resolution. System maintenance and updates are provided with advance notice. Also, our website is connected to Square as the business and customer experiences are pleasant with no additional monthly fee. The only con is that the customer service and technical supports teams are available during weekdays on Pacific time. Our business location is on eastern time.
