We were lucky to catch up with Fang Fang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Fang, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career
Academic environment especially for Fashion industry seems like a bit dated. The skills we learn from school seems not catching up with the industry needs. I would recommend helping students get into the field and having project’s collaborating with the industry..

Fang, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being a fashion designer was my dream when I was in elementary school. When I choosing my major at my last year high school, I told my parents I want to be a fashion designer, which is very different from what they expected. Finally they let me to start art but not fashion. So I had my BFA and MFA with Animation.
Even I was in animation world, I still want to be a Fashion designer, so I learned sewing by myself and created my first fashion portfolio. Applied SCAD secretly and received my scholarship. Finally my parents agreed send to the U.S.
Everything was great on the path to be a real fashion designer. I worked in NYC helping runway designs, all the girls dream came true.
Then, life changed, when I accepted the offer being an instructor at Academy of Art University when I was 29.
While I was teaching I started my jewelry line and sports goods line. Business is growing and I feel the best way to survive in the fashion world would be having your own business.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
The best moment for finding the vendor is we got approval from Vibram. Which is a shoe sole company would like to work with us for our shoes.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
We have our website with Shopify. Since it can link the inventory with Instagram. We recommend. But the fee is high
