We were lucky to catch up with Jade Starling recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jade , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects I have worked on is having our #1 Platinum Smash Hit record “Catch Me, I’m Falling “-Pretty Poison be included on the soundtrack of the Netflix series “Monster:The Jeffrey Dahmer Story “.. We got the call from our publishing company about a year before the series aired to get our permission to use the song. They actually sent the script of the scene the song would be used in. We were so excited to work with Ryan Murphy on one of his productions, this was truly a dream come true. The song was used in Episode 4 and actually plays twice during the scene.The show has gone on to win 4 Golden Globe Awards and is nominated for 5 Emmys. Also it has become of one of the most watched Netflix series in history with over a billion views. I’m thrilled to be going to the Emmy Awards in January 2024 to witness first hand all of the excitement.
Jade , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jade Starling, I’m the lead singer for the group Pretty Poison. I’m an award winning singer ,songwiriter and producer.. Along with my partner from the group multi instrumentalist, producer and songwriter Whey Cooler we have had a very successful career and continue to flourish. Our first big hit record is the infectious “Catch Me, I’m Falling” it went #1 Dance , #8 Pop and #13 R&B on the Billboard Top 100. It has been included in many hit movies and TV shows and is still going strong today. It has been remixed by international top DJ producer Markus Schultz and will be released in 2024.We have had 27 charted records and had 11 number one international Dance Hits to date. We just released our new single “Place in the Sun ” on Aug 25th and it’s doing amazing on Radio and Mixshows internationally including iheartradio stations. It recently went to number one on both the Musicworx International and Download charts and crossed over to Top 40 radio on New Music Weekly Top 40 and Top 100 charts. The official music video was released on September 15th and already has over 34K views and counting. The video was shot on a gorgeous private beach in Southern California with panoramic scenery and breathtaking views both landscape and coastline. The video features Whey Cooler playing cello on the rocks while Jade Starling croons as she becomes the Goddess of the Ocean.. Part fantasy and part reality this video is both artistic in its expression and a stunning visual. It can take you on a journey and take your breath away. I’m always about positivity and uplifting our fans so we write music that is thought provoking and can instill a joyful feeling. We are currently in the studio working on new music for our upcoming album release scheduled for 2024. We have been included on several multi act arena tours including Freestyle Explosion, Freestyle Festival , Lost 80s , The Sands and most recently doing tour dates with Markus Schultz on his The Rabbit Hole Circus ” tour in support of his album of the same name. We have a song with him on the lp called “Stolen ” which has over 200K streams on Spotify and will be released as a single.in 2024.. We love doing tourdates and meeting with the fans, 2024 will be a busy year with new releases and tour dates. I feel very blessed to get do music as my career and continue to be successful because of our amazing fans!!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most amazing aspect of my career and being an artist is how rewarding it is when.people connect to our music. I’ve had people reach out to me and say your music has changed my. life or your music helped get me through some dark times. Even.people saying your song was my prom song or wedding song.Our music is written and designed for people to feel uplifted and take the listener on an emotional journey. I want people to really feel the joy in our songs and have a more positive outlook on life. I’ve always wanted to spread the message of love and unity through the power of music, I’m so happy our fans are feeling it and that we have this platform to really make a difference in people’s lives.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal and mission on.our creative journey is to be able to heal.people through our music. About six years ago my songwriting partner Whey Cooler was diagnosed with head and neck cancer. I saw how hard he worked in the studio all throughout his treatment of chemo and radiation. His faith was strong and his family and friends rallied around him to lift him up in prayer.. I believe our music and all the positive prayers helped to cure him. He is now in remission and thriving doing better than ever.We have created a non profit cancer charity called Party2Life.org. We are developing ways of helping cancer patients get through their treatments with the help of their favorite music as therapy. It’s been actually diagnosed that music can help to heal the body through releasing endorphins. If our music can help to cure disease or any type of mental illness than our jobs as songwiriters is truly a gift from God.
