We recently connected with Clarke Duchannes and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Clarke, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
At the end of the day I don’t think success comes from sales or profits or any of the related subjects. I base my success on being able to make products that I am proud of and that bring joy into the world. When I see someone with a smile on their face I feel like I’ve done my part.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been crocheting off and on since I was maybe 4 or 5 years old. I have always enjoyed it as a pass time and so when I started getting better at it I decided it was time to dip my toes into the idea of becoming a business owner.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was thinking I was going to be able to dive headfirst into my business and care about nothing else. Even though I’m doing something I enjoy, it’s still really important to maintain a good work/life balance.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I used to be a cake decorator and actually that was a big part in me learning the aforementioned lesson. I went to college for it, I got a great job that I loved, and still found myself taking less and less pleasure from it because I wasn’t focusing enough on me and my personal physical and mental health.
