We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Alex Windsor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Alex below.
Alright, Alex thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I actually held a “regular” job for many years. While I did not dislike it, I did not feel fulfilled. Being a full-time musician comes with a lot of sacrifice, but the satisfaction from my work is unparalleled. I’m absolutely happy as a musician. There are definitely some difficult days, but I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. The rewarding feeling I get when I walk off stage or after recording a good take in the studio gives my life so much meaning.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a musician and music has been a significant part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing guitar in middle school and from then on I knew I wanted to be a part of the music industry. Today I make a living from performing, writing, arranging, recording, and teaching music. I’ve studied many different genres including classical, jazz, and bluegrass, but my specialties are rock and pop. I’ve been fortunate to work with major and independent artists alike. I like to think that one of my biggest strengths is taking songs to the next level and figuring out what serves them best. I’m always looking for new projects and challenges.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There’s no feeling quite like seeing my music bring other people joy. Whether it’s an audience at a concert or a creative partner in the studio, I feel the greatest sense of accomplishment when others are pleased with my work. Music has always been very healing for me, so I am honored when I can share that with others.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The odds have been somewhat stacked against me from the beginning. I’ve been very privileged to have loving and supportive parents, but we were poor and lived in a small central Illinois town. I dreamed that I would one day get to live in Los Angeles, but I never thought it would actually be possible. By working hard, taking opportunities, and having a little luck, my dreams came true. There were many obstacles in my way, and many times I wanted to give up, but I’m always glad I didn’t. If I ever feel discouraged, I try to focus on how far I’ve come already – that perspective keeps me going.
