We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dameon Victorian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dameon below.
Alright, Dameon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am one billion percent happy as an actor and filmmaker! And, I also have a regular day job as well. It’s indeed a tricky balance but I’m here for it all. I have yet to make a full time living off the creative work though there’s no stress on my mind that I eventually will. The great and wise Nipsey Hussle said, “It’s a marathon”, and as long as I keep the pressure running then everything will come together.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well first and foremost my name is Dameon Victorian. I like slow walks on the beach, crusty feet, and my food well seasoned. But in all seriousness, this journey of mine began in 12th grade when I decided to pursue acting as a career.
My goal for college was to learn as much as I can about the craft of acting and apply it in the real world. I attended Santa Monica College, while I was there I performed in five plays. Some of the people I met there we’re still friends today. Even casted them in my own projects.
After those years were over. I went head first into acting. The first acting job I did was for a director by the name of Calmatic. It was a music video for an artist named DeJ loaf. Calmatic later went on to direct big studio movies and Grammy award-winning music videos. He is definitely one of my biggest inspirations.
I believe what drew me into acting was my love for TV, film, cartoons, and anime. Also, telling an authentic story whether it be through writing or through performance.
One of the main things I’m proud of is being able to write, direct, and cast my fellow actor friends in my own work. One thing I crave is to build and expand my relationship with new directors, actors, and even writers.
The most important thing I would like people to know about me is I’m a huge goofball and nerd. Probably the world’s most handsome nerd, just waiting for the award. But let me not get into how good I look. I make it my business to be my authentic, credible, empathetic self. Take everything away from me. I’m still going to be one dope person period. I often feel as if a lot of folks are trying their best NOT to be themselves. There’s only one you ladies and gentlemen. BE! THAT! PERSON! AND LOVE IT!
Finally, when it comes to my work I truly desire to give the viewer and honest story. Something that will make them laugh. Something that will make them cry. Something that will make them feel angry. I want to invoke emotions out of people. That’s what this craft is all about for me. To make the audience feel something.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding thing about all of this is building new relationships with people. I’m a people’s person so the more people I can meet and collaborate with the better.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Society needs to continue to consume! Society needs artists just as much as artists needs society. We can not live without each other. No matter what kind of artist you are the people want to see it, and they may not even know it yet. Go to the movies, look at a YouTube video, find some new music. These various art forms bring happiness to us all, so go out there and consume!
