We recently connected with Patrick Everett and have shared our conversation below.
Patrick, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was in high school a recruiter came in and showed us what I thought was just a photograph but turned out to be a drawing. I was so captivated and knew I wanted to pursue art as a career. Funny about that story is my art style is far from that realistic style.
Patrick, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Im kind of a jack of all trades, where as I don’t try to limit myself to what I can do. Starting out as an artist trying to make a living off your art is hard and getting jobs and networking can be challenging. The beginning I use to treat art as if I was in a band. A gig is a gig so they say. Allowing myself to take on all different styles as I go because I never wanted to turn down a client has sharpen my blades to say at least. Can’t really say i’m focus on one thing but I do love to paint anime/marvel and DC characters because this is the one style of art I really enjoy because its pretty much in my daily life, speaking as a proud nerd. I do have a strong passion for logo design. To know I’m creating a brand which the audience will judge your company sometimes just from the impression a logo gives off. Im most proud to be a C0-Owner of Level Up Dance Studios located in Bloomfield where me and my best Friend Mario Quinn turned a simple idea during college to have a place where we can dance and put all our skills we’ve learned under one roof and its been running for about 6 years. If you are in need of a graphic designer or need some nerd art in your place of Business or home feel free to look me up. I’m grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had and will have.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I remember when I was much younger my mom was not supportive of me wanting to pursue art as a career. In her words you will not be financially capable of supporting yourself. She never understood that art is all I ever think about and I rather be poor but happy to do something I love which makes me rich in a sense, then to be rich and miserable. Growing up feeling like an odd ball cause I was never around like minded people until I came Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Never tell someone they should give up on their dreams, instead support them/nurture that dream. The world is already going to them no’s so don’t let it start with you.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I do love the journey of creating or designing something for a client but its the ending. The look of satisfaction on there faces when you was able to bring a simple but complex idea to life; it’s like the icing on a cake for me. Or a random follower of your work comes up to me just to say I love your work or it inspires me. I never knew I would get to a point where people say I inspired them, I’m truly humble for those moments in life.
