We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lutisha “Tish” Goebel . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lutisha “Tish” below.
Lutisha “Tish”, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, what’s an important lesson you learned at a prior job
I grew up in what was in the 1970’-1980’s as a small town, Boise Idaho. It was a place and time where working hard meant a great deal to my generation. Sure there were some who could not wait to graduate and leave Boise but for the most part many wanted to pick up where their parents left off and continue the family business for generations to come.
It is with a sad heart that I was one of the individuals that was anxious to leave Boise promptly after graduation.
Although I was able to travel and see many parts of the world, This experience allowed me to encounter many different people from various places with various views of life just trying to live their best life often encountering people that were just as broken as myself.
In my life journey I found myself having a heart to encourage others, empower others and to just meet them where they were at in whatever stage of life they were in.
I spent many years in management, training and development and spent the last few years before opening my business in the medical field doing exactly what my life experiences prepared me for, to meet others where they were at in a difficult medical crisis.
In the late 80’s I was diagnosed with an incurable medical condition, which led me to gain personal experience accompanied with my passion to encourage others allowed me to be a perfect fit in counseling others through their medical trials.
I was healed from my condition January 13, 2019. My healing lit a fire inside of me, my desire to encourage others that what seems impossible can absolutely be possible, when you believe.
Before leaving the field I counseled individuals through addiction into recovery.
My backstory of perseverance through the various trials was/is all in preparation of refining me for this moment to share my gifts in a capacity that cannot be outlined/controlled by any human being.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Having a coffee shop/social house has been a dream of mine since 1996. The name Strange Brew came from my original desire to have a social house that served coffee but infused alcoholic mixes into the recipe.
After many years of attempts to launch the business, it seemed like something was always in the way of the launching of my dream.
I spent many years helping others meet their potential but it just did not seem to happen for me, I couldn’t understand why?
In this 26 year journey I learned that everything before walking in my dream was preparation and it was about timing.
It did not require me to look to another person for help, it required me to look to Jesus and get aligned with His plans not my own.
I remained in obedience to His desires, in that I lost much, but I gained so much more.
Dedication, perseverance and faith gave me all that I needed to hold onto my dream.
I now get to share every bit of my journey with my customers to encourage them on so many levels.
I have been entrusted with a place that allows people a safe place to feel that they belong.
I am proud that we can freely share our love of Christ with everyone we encounter with no limitations and our customers see and experience the authenticity of the love we have for them.
We aim to know everyone by name including their family members and their likes and dislikes.
We serve with the true intention that when people come through our door we are a key instrument in them leaving forever changed for the good.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
We are two different businesses under one roof. My partner in business, is a phenomenal interior designer, a mother of 8 and she home schools all of her kiddos. We met 15 years ago attending the same church congregation. Even though she and her family moved several times throughout the years we remained in contact.
We often kept each other encouraged through the various trials and we always made it a point to reach out to celebrate one another’s accomplishments.
In June, 2019 I was I unexpectantly hit with the news that my husband wanted to end our 20 year relationship. This all came on the heels of my business partner handling unwanted challenges in her own marriage.
Over the following year we kept one another anchored in Gods Word, seeking Him day and night.
During this time together we gained proper perspective in who we were, as women in Christ, we challenged each other to grow and go deeper in our relationship with Him. We saw the best of each other and often the very worst of each other, but we know for certain that it was divinely orchestrated by God.
God put a dream in both of our hearts to share our gifts with the world however some house cleaning in our hearts had to take place in order for our dream to reflect His image, not our own.
The divorce put me in a place of total dependency on God, leaving behind my comforts and financial security, starting over at 50.
I went back to work in the medical field after being away for 4 years. I was able to save enough money to launch Phoenix Strange Brew after 26 years.
My business partner moved from Northern Arizona after the closure of her shop during the pandemic.
We stepped out on faith with little to no financial resources to walk in our dream.
It has not been easy, but we are grateful! We know what we had to go through to get here.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
In the divorce I was awarded enough to pay off my attorneys fees & the remaining $7000.00 I kept in a savings account. God was with me, I continued to get ridiculous raises at work which allowed me to save at a greater capacity. I kept my household bills low.
In less than one year I had more than enough capital to finance the business without a single business loan.
I hope that the person who read this story, who may be feeling that their dreams are hopeless or dead due to their circumstances replaces that lie with this truth.
I am a living witness that it’s NEVER too late!
