We were lucky to catch up with Rashieda Timpson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rashieda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Earlier in my career I just knew I was going to be a CRNA which is a certified registered nurse anesthetist. This was a very competitive program so I had made sure that I had high grades in all my science courses. When I was in my undergraduate program I had the opportunity to shadow a CRNA. I watch her do her job as she placed and epidural in a patient having a c-section. After she was done (which was really quick) she sat down watching a screen. The other individuals in the room which were apart of the team ( nurse, midwife, tech) was busy working to make sure the patient was safe and delivered the baby with no complications. I left the room perplexed,. I thought I wanted to be a cRNA, but now I realize I wanted to be a part of the action just like the midwife, nurse, and tech. I didn’t want to be like the CRNA sitting down watching a screen. When I went home, I called one of my mentors was a nurse practitioner, and told her how perplexed I was, I had made sure I had all A’s in my sciences, I just knew I was going to be a cRNA. She asked me one question, why do you want to become a cRNA, I said because this is the highest paid nursing job out there. She said wrong answer, told me you can’t just do something because of the money. She recommended a book called I am second. It was successful individuals who had to put God‘s purpose for their life first, and everything else came second. This incident caused me to realize that you have to do what you’re passionate about doing, not just because of money or someone else is doing it. This frame of thinking let me down the path of obtaining my Family Nurse Practitioner, and I continue my education and receive my doctorate of nursing practice.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
My success is my faith in God. I I know that I have a purpose in life and my faith in knowing that God has a plan for me keeps me pushing towards new heights
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What has been most successful in building my reputation is being authentic. People want to know that you are real with them. People want you to be reachable and relatable.
