We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Cruz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I’m hoping to build a legacy in which people feel inspire to follow their projects and dreams, to take a chance on what they want and desire, and at least try. There is nothing to loose when you try because if you try you realize how that dream could be but if you don’t you will always have that as an illusion, that you never knew the outcome of it. I would like to be remembered as someone that help pushing other people to live new experiences, set new goals and try new things.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into this business when I realize that I loved the image world. I love to watch movies and pictures and the magic that they have and can communicate, that was on an early age. I took this photography course and loved how I could capture a moment and all of them where precious and beautiful and seeing develop an image under these chemicals was such an awesome experience. After this, this stay on my mind during high school and university where I tried to focus on learning new stuff and techniques and create my own projects and images. And then I worked in my home country Colombia, to gain more experience in a professional way during a couple of years, following other more experience people and learning from them was awesome because each of them had their way of expressing and create their pieces, which gave me the chance to pick up what I liked from each one of them. I think this and having the chance to travel around many countries gave me the chance to create my own point of view that is always readjusting with the things that I see and experience. I feel this could set me apart from others considering that every person is different for me the characteristic of being always open to learn helps me to enrich my work and my projects, listening to my clients and creating together. I would love my clients to know that when they start a project with me they are an essential part of the team and their thoughts and feelings will be heard in every stage of the project.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist/creative is that you have the chance to touch people’s minds and hearts with what you do. Understanding that no everyone would like or don’t like what you do is a big step during the journey but I think the most important part of it is understanding that what you create could inspire or move something inside someone, even if it is just one person, that is such an amazing feeling.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think everyone is a creative being, the difference is that some people decide not to develop it because they feel there are probably more important stuff to pay attention to or just don’t feel creative enough. Following this, maybe they struggle understanding why is so difficult to find something “stable”, why not just settling with something that is working and keep doing that until the end of times. And I think that when you decide to develop your creativity you want and need to keep searching, exploring and experiencing what the world has to offer. So, that continuous search is always there to keep enriching our point of view.
