We recently connected with David Heckenberg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My dear sweet mother is my biggest inspiration, my heart knows how to love because of you.
This is a letter my dad gave me in 1-21-03, you rock!!
“David the Son
The two most valuable gifts parents can give their children are (1) respect as conscious beings with individual rights, and (2) environments that promoted honesty, assertive effort, integrity, independence, and the skill to perceive reality accurately.
In our fortunate way of American life you have the opportunity to choose your direction in life. Education, learning, and the creation of new ideas will assist you on your journey through life. Keep your options open, learn to be decisive and learn to delegate. You are God’s greatest miracle! Nobody can stand behind your eyeballs and look out into the world and see the world the way that you do (that’s a very unique gift or miracle). Your skill to perceive reality accurately in paramount.
With much shared Love Father Wallace!
You can’t have enjoyment without appreciation!
P.S. Always be #1 with yourself first. Stay true to your beliefs and ideas, change gradually and grow your greatest. Hearts on fire!”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I may appear to be a person who lives in a home, with a car, in a city, within a society, on planet earth. I may appear to be the singer and songwriter behind the rock band “Hidden Guide.” But really I’m an undercover agent for an infinite higher power which knows neither time nor limitation and my purpose is to spread love and kindness, to lift up my fellows, and to help those who are suffering.
I don’t consider myself an artist or a musician, although I do write songs and play instruments. It’s always felt like a natural and logical thing to do, I’ve never questioned it…it still kind of puzzles me till this day. Fortunately God never runs out of melodies and so I’m just a channel taking down the inspiration that is fed and passes through me, I’m continually humbled by this process and I feel I have a duty and responsibility to bring it to light.
I can’t see the road or where it goes but I can feel it in my bones. There’s no end game, no agenda, just the joy of living. Sure it would be nice to be able to support myself financially with the music, but money will never stop me from expressing what’s written in my heart.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
chill out, breath, and enjoy your life

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In regards to social media/advertising I realize we live in a content based music landscape, but I have no plans to take the bait or play that game. I learned this the hard way. I’ve lost the capacity to waste time and effort on anything visual, for me personally I decided my only department is audio sound, the song. After the song is written, recorded, and released I have done my part.
