Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nancy Crowd. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nancy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I did not learn design and how to be creative in the traditional sense. I think being creative has a lot to do with exploration and curiosity. I’m a curious person! My process is the design process and I utilize this through all aspects of my life. The design process involves a series of steps beginning with research, analysis, and understanding the needs of your consumer. This is followed by play, ideation, executing your idea, and then re-evaluating what could have been better. I think design is a balance between something being functional but also having an aesthetic. It is an iterative process, and the final design is based off consumer feedback. My process includes skills, patience, attention to detail, creativity, and perseverance. If I could go back in time, I think I would practice patience and appreciate the obstacles. For me, obstacles include a lack of resources, access to mentors, time constraints, and self-doubt. Never doubt yourself!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey my name is Nancy Crowd and I am a designer, producer, and director! I’m mostly known for my simplistic and unique approach to combining traditional and contemporary styles. My collections feature intricate detailing, bold prints, and simplistic Japanese inspired art. Silent Crowd is my lifestyle brand which has featured shoes, clothing, accessories, and even stationary. The brand follows a similar aesthetic to my personal style with a focus on minimalism and elegance. You may have seen me on Jay Leno, Access Hollywood, Steve Harvey, or in a few random rap videos. I love to read, make art, and travel. I’m a very passionate woman who’s primary focus is to empower other women and people in general to be their authentic self. I pride myself on being an individual who speaks their mind and stands their ground!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think to be a creative person you have to be a very passionate person. My drive is the desire to self-express! For me, creativity provides an outlet for emotional expression and a way to convey ideas and feelings that are difficult to articulate through words alone. More often than not, I desire to innovate, explore new perspectives and push boundaries. I’m deeply motivated by a sense of achievement and the satisfaction of seeing my ideas come to life through my work. Above all, my drive to create is deep rooted in figuring out a way to share my personal experiences and perspectives in an artistic way.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Simply said, I deliver. I think to build a reputation you have to consistently deliver high-quality work that resonates with your clients. I focus on creating unique, meaningful products that tell a story and capture the essence of a vision. To form strong relationships with people you have to carefully listen to their needs and collaborate those ideas throughout the design process. As a result, creativity and professionalism are delivered with whatever product you’re selling.
