We were lucky to catch up with Avarex NJ recently and have shared our conversation below.
Avarex, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Honestly talent runs through my family tree I have some uncles including cousins that DJ. My grandfathers where singers & some of my aunts sing & do hair. I wouldn’t speed my process because the process made me you can’t skip the grind. The skill that I have were I’m most essential would be my art & music they both are kind of tied into each other like a ying & yang. The obstacles that stood in the way of learning more for me personally not having the right people sometimes in my corner. Not having enough support or financial stability & also coming up in poverty.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For folks who may not have read about AvarexNJ before, I’m a hip hop artist from Newark & Jersey City NJ. My mother side of the family come from Newark and my Father side of the family come from Jersey City plus New York City. I lived in the urban & middle class communities of New Jersey and found a few ways to stay out the streets. Iv’e been drawing probably since 3 or 4 yrs old and I’ve been rapping plus recording music since my teenage years. I’ve been consistent putting out mixtpaes, albums & artwork for many years. I’ve my 4th album releasing in Oct. 2023. I’ve been in & out of trouble since a kid but since I’ve became a father myself, I learned I had to switch my hustle fast & change my ways. What set me apart from others, I have artistic abilities to think, see and hear differently from others. Also I have real life experience of hitting the pavement since a kid. I’ve went from selling candy to kids in my class too some illegal activities outside in my late teenage years. Experience is the best teacher. What I would like for people to know about my brands whether your buying artwork or streaming my songs I eat , live & breathe what I do. If you ever see me perform live you would feel my energy & probably would like to hear more. If I draw a picture of anything, your going too see my quality and respect me as artist. I treat what I do like a sport you know. I feel like the Allen Iverson of the Hip Hop Industry people are going to come out to watch me play when I make it big time.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist would be I’m still learning something new which helps me keep growing. I didn’t put a limit on what I can do. When people walk up too me & let me know they like my music or art that makes me feel great because that tells me the world is seeing my hard work . Also the people I’ve loss growing up would be very proud including my grandfathers. Also I’ve broken nights recordings songs , drawing pictures for celebrities, working on my craft for years like a basketball player in the gym plus dealing with LIFE problems I didn’t give up when I’ve could’ve. This journey gave me wisdom, faith and a whole lot of balls to keep going when some people tried to stop me.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
There are many goals & missions driving my creative journey. My love ones push me to do better and live better. I was born with gifts so I feel like God pushes me to use it in many different ways especially in a positive way being that I was brought up in so much negativity . Also the doubts I receive from my haters since a kid I have to keep proving them wrong haha.
