We were lucky to catch up with Rah Kalon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Rah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Throughout my life, my parents voices were the soundtrack for my self-love journey. While I grew up the youngest in a household of co-dependent people, I grew up seeing how powerful love in all its forms and expressions could be. I was taught love in times of achievement. I was taught love in times of grief. I was taught love in times of great adversity just as much as I was taught it in times of great ease, and that ingrained in me an understanding of how invaluable and life changing being loved wholeheartedly is. I grew up painfully aware that most people spent their lives looking for this love or convincing themselves that they did not need, want, or deserve it. Because of my parents, I was privileged to know from the very beginning that I was worthy of love, and my life’s work became to learn how to demonstrate this worthiness to myself instead of waiting for someone else to continue to affirm me. This work that I have set out to do for me is the foundation for why I offer myself as a vessel of love to others. If we did not have safe places to fail and be loved growing up, then we will forever be seeking self-perfection instead of self-acceptance. When we have someone to hold space for us when we feel both worthy and unworthy, then we are given an opportunity to learn how to hold this space for ourselves. My parents voices were the soundtrack for my self-love journey so that I could find my own voice, and now my voice is the soundtrack for others who are ready to liberate themselves.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Greetings! My name is Rah, founder of Rah Kalon Coaching & Consulting, an emotional intelligence (eQ) platform designed to support individuals, families, and companies in understanding that they are not simply enough, but in fact, they are More Than. More Than self-doubt. More Than grief. More Than trauma. Everyone has their perceived barriers, but when working with me you lovingly learn that the door is locked from the inside. I have been in this line of work for 7+ years, however, this has been my work to do all of my life. From bold beginnings as a poet and playwright who used spoken word to minister to people, to claiming my masters in clinical counseling and becoming a national trainer, speaker, and life coach, I live humbled by the impact walking in my purpose has had on the world around me.
I get the privilege of coaching clients who are navigating their limiting core beliefs and emotional blind spots in order to heal their relationships with themselves and loved ones. I get the honor of being the eQ consultant who trains person-centered businesses on how to create environments of mental wealth for their employees. I get the glorious opportunity to educate, empower and uplift my community through various “hard to process” pain-points in order to show them that they innately and wholeheartedly are More Than.
Whether you are in need of a meditation, mediation or a wedding officiation, I show up with an abundance of love and clear guidance on how to access it for yourself.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn the belief that life was only about feeling good. Don’t get me wrong, that’s definitely a part of life, but suppressing all the other feelings that were trying to communicate with me was not serving me. Sorrow had words for me that I needed to hear. Rage had opinions that were scary, but when I listened closely, I could admit it had some valid points. I had to learn for myself how to hold space for all my feelings while simultaneously not identifying as any specific one, and found that there’s no need to choose favorites when every emotion offers greater understanding about our unique human experiences.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Who I am right now, and what I do for a living, is what I have always dreamed of being and doing. There just wasn’t a generic blueprint because it was a path I had to create for myself. My whole life I have wanted to ensure those around me felt seen, cared for, and valued. My whole life I have wanted to live as a vessel of love. To get to be a multidimensional being who makes a living reminding others that they too are multidimensional blesses me beyond anything I could ever explain.
