We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Micah Autry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Micah below.
Micah, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is often times a convoluted word; however, I believe to achieve one’s goals, an individual must have self-discipline, grit, and impeccable “soft skills.”
I believe success in business is as much about the skills around your craft as much as it is about the craft itself.
One must have the ability to sacrifice and delay gratification along with the intrinsic motivation to do the “not-so-fun” work behind the scenes.

Micah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Micah Autry graduated from the University of North Texas in 2015. He is currently a serial entrepreneur that owns Aume Motion Arts LLC, Autry & Stanley Real Estate Investments, and the Secrets of Silent Success podcast. Autry also authored “Dorm Life to Work Life” a millennial’s guide to being an adult, bridging the gap with older generations and finding success. Micah began his media career directing music videos in high school and started his public speaking journey in 2017 presenting for networking groups and chambers of commerce.
Through AUME, he has produced numerous projects for entities such as Southern Methodist University, The City of Dallas, Chick-fil-A, Tiff’s Treats, and many others. Micah has also had projects featured in The Denton Black Film Festival, The Baltimore International Black Film Festival, South by Southwest as well as having his feature length documentary; “Black Men in White Coats”, screened at over 100 of the country’s medical schools.
The Secrets of Success Podcast allows Micah to share his business wisdom as well as interview other entrepreneurs about their journey. Micah has had the opportunity to interview brands like Cookie Society and Smokey Johns BBQ as well as individuals such as Norman “DJ CHOSE” Payne, Vonda Bailey (Judge Vonda B), Antonio Diego, and more.
His speaking talents has allowed him to impart wisdom into organizations and high school students across the state of Texas as well as collegiate institutions such as The University of North Texas and The University of Houston. Micah’s ultimate goal in life is to help young individuals of color achieve professional success, health and wealth. He uses his public speaking talents, podcast, experiences, network, and companies to do just that.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I feel that I am currently in a major professional pivot as we speak. Our media business is shifting from one-on-one client facing business such as weddings and corporate videos to more of a publishing route with creating episodic series and documentaries.
As filmmakers and media professionals, we all want to tell stories and see our content on the big screen (digital streaming platforms these days lol) but I believe we learned valuable lessons when playing in the “minor leagues” (i.e. filming weddings, events, commercials)
I am also pivoting from being solely a media professional to also a public speaker and author. Public speaking has always been a passion but in recent years I have not made time for it while growing the media business. Now that the media business has repeating clientele and sufficient funds, I can focus on my true passion.
My goal with podcasting and public speaking is to create “fans” (same thing is true for creating films and TV series). As an entrepreneur we are often times beholding to our clients; which is part of giving great customer service, but as I pivot in my career, I am striving to pivot from client focused content to fan focused content.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
GRATITUDE! At the beginning of each meeting I always ask my team, “What are you grateful for today”
Life may weigh on us at times but if we look at the glass “half-full” by remembering what we are grateful for, it goes a long way in boosting morale.

I also believe transparent communication and building friendships within the team is important. If team members don’t feel they are in a “safe” environment to communicate opening, then I believe performance and morale will suffer.
Also, I one time had a client mention, “Never work with someone you wouldn’t want to spend an airport layover with.” A frivolous quote on the outside but the meaning inside is true. We should strive to work with people we like and enjoy being around.
