Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kahli Gibson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kahli, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Here at Fiction we really strive for a positive one on one interaction. We are working with peoples faces, which is a serious thing, and we take it as so! We aim for quality over quantity as well. It super important that our clients have an individualized appointment to create their desired look they feel confident in.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
At first, I got started in the industry of Cosmetic Tattooing because of my love of cosmetics and tattooing. But I’ve stayed for the relationships with the wonderful people I’ve met on the way.
I’m living in Los Angeles California, and my shop, Fiction Cosmetic Tattooing,
is located in Echo Park, Los Angeles.
Where our outstanding a team of skilled artists provide the highest quality cosmetic tattooing.
We always aim for hyper real-hyper natural look. I think this is something that really has become our niche over the years.
And if you’ve ever been to Fiction, you would know it’s named after my best friend who happens to be a dog.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I got started in this industry, about 8 years ago, it was very small and not a lot of experienced artists were involved yet. It was very difficult at that time to receive proper education, especially that delivered natural results.
So, I had to learn the unfortunate lesson that you may take a training and not feel confident about what you spent a lot of time and money learning. Now I always tell people, train with someone who you admire their work, because they will train you in the specific style.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I guess the best answer that comes to mind, is the fact we opened up 6 months before a little thing called The Pandemic haha. It was obviously a scary and confusing time for everyone, we were just getting into the swing of things at Fiction and then it was brought to an abrupt stop.
But I’m so forever grateful for my amazing team, Nora Grace Stahl, Kat Bloss, and Kristy Silic, for helping me keep everything running and pivoting with all new rules, regulations etc.
