We recently connected with Nina Childs and have shared our conversation below.
Nina , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I’m taking my latest play, TVLand,to New York in the spring of 2024. I’ve primarily just done plays here in Los Angeles so I’m excited but it’s a huge undertaking and a big risk. TVLand was a huge hit in the 2023 Hollywood Fringe Festival this summer and I’m just hoping that it will be as big of hit with New York audiences next year. I’m betting on myself, I encourage people to do that often. Bet on the house. The house never loses.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a writer mostly but I started as a theater kid. I starred in the 1st play I was ever in at 5 years old. Starred in my second play in 4th grade and I pretty much just continued on that path thru college. I started writing in 2014, 7 years after I decided acting was not something I wanted to continue pursuing. I’ve been writing and producing stage plays, tv pilots, short films, feature films and sketches since then. I’ve also been blessed as an independent writer, producer to have been privately contracted to write several feature films and tv pilots by independent producers. I love what I’m building. It’s been worth every heartbreak and every sacrifice.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative for me is the freedom. I fully exercise my freedom to create and tell the stories I want to tell. Sometimes the shit I come up with gets me the side eye from my close friends but hey, I so what the f*@ck I want and that’s one thing I’m never going to compromise about. I do what I want. Not what’s popular!
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
My views on nfts are the same as my views on Big Foot. Is it real? What does it all mean? How is this effecting us as a society? Who made this shit up? A lot of questions…more questions than views I guess.
