Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jordan Flowers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jordan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
In 2010 I was a single momma of a 1 year old little boy. I had mentioned to a friend that I wish I could afford to have photos taken of me and my son together. A few weeks later, a photographer contacted me telling me she wanted to bless me with a free session. She said that she knows what it is like to struggle as a single parent and how important it is to capture memories no matter your budget. I promised her I would find a way to pay her and she said “just pay it forward one day”. When I started my photography business, I knew I had to find a way to pay it forward. Now every year in the fall I host “pay what you can afford” session (a 20 minute session that allows people to pay what is in their budget no matter if its $5 or $100).
Those photos she took for me and my son that day many years ago are still some of my most favorite cherished pictures. And anytime I can find a way to pay it forward, I will. Her kindness has blessed and blessed others far more than she will ever know.
Jordan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jordan Flowers, I am a momma to 3 little boys and have a very supportive husband. I have loved photography my entire life. Once my boys started growing up, I realized I wanted to capture all of their memories to cherish for years to come. CDP Photography started because of them (Caleb, Dax and Pecos). CDP Photography grew because of my friends and family who noticed my work and started asking me to capture their memories as well. I was going through post partum depression at the time and each session I captured, helped pull me out of that hard time in my life. My camera brings me joy. My clients bring me joy. Pictures bring me joy. And my overall hope and prayer as your photographer is that the time we spend together and the images I send you, will bring you joy as well.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by setting up a Senior group! I set up a group of 8-10 incoming Senior girls and give them sessions at a discounted rate, in exchange they tag me on all post and share my business with friends and family for the entire year.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I am self taught and struggled finding in person classes. A fellow photographer mentioned that our local camera store hosted classes so I signed up and fell in love. Each class helped me grow and learn, I made connections with other photographers, was added to groups that shared locations that were great for shooting and so much more. I wish I could have found these classes earlier in my journey, they have been such a growing path for my business.
