Alright, Megan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
It wasn’t until I was in business for well over a year that I came up with ‘The Bush Babe.’ I started my small business journey under the name of ‘Wax Avenue’, a name that I came up with while still working for a corporate waxing chain. ‘Wax Avenue’ took months of sifting through multiple sources of inspirations before it came to me, and even then, it never fully embodied my vision for my brand once I was on my own. Being a body waxer means sharing intimate space with someone and one of my main priorities is keeping our time together a genuinely enjoyable interaction in attempt to reduce feelings of vulnerability that comes with being so exposed. When I noticed the hesitancy in growing out body hair, I began casually telling my clients to bring me a “bush” to help normalize growing out your hair for a wax.
A client of mine had called me “bush queen” while texting and as I was driving to work one morning, thinking about our conversation, the name “The Bush Babe” popped into my head and I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days, it truly embodied all I was looking for in a business name as a brazilian wax expert.
It took over six months to officially change my name, however, the brand immediately took on life thanks to it being the ultimate reflection of my vision. ‘The Bush Babe’ is a name that you won’t forget, and assists in providing the best clientele for my business, all while allowing me to showcase my playful personality and expertise in a competitive market.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Before realizing my potential as a solo business owner and entrepreneur, I dedicated the majority of my twenties to employment with both local businesses and global corporations. As time passed, it became evident to me that sustaining a career in such capacities was neither sustainable nor personally fulfilling. This realization prompted me to start seriously reconsidering my career path moving forward. Subsequently, I resigned from my nine-to-five and enrolled in a program dedicated to esthetics at a reputable beauty school.
As a new esthetician, I recognized the necessity of acquiring expertise and gaining further experience by once again working for another large corporation. After graduation, I accepted a position with a large corporate waxing chain, which ignited my passion for waxing. Each learning opportunity was embraced with enthusiasm, and I acknowledged that this experience was only strengthening my foundation for future entrepreneurial pursuits. After nearly two years and undergoing a particularly chaotic shift, I abruptly and unapologetically ended my employment as a Wax Specialist. The relief I felt was indescribable as I walked through the front doors, affirming my conviction that being a business owner was my true calling, and nothing could deter me from pursuing it. A little over two months later, I opened the doors to my very own waxing studio.
Initially, my business offerings encompassed full-body waxing services, eventually evolving to focus primarily on brazilian waxing. While some may regard this service as unconventional or inconsequential, its significance for those who seek it cannot be overstated. I have personally observed the remarkable boost in confidence and self-esteem that arises from a single waxing session, with ongoing visits leading to increased self-respect and self-appreciation. Waxing requires an intimate rapport between myself and my clients, so I establish trust and create a comfortable environment that emphasizes normalcy and the beauty of the individual. This has consistently proven to be a hallmark of my success as both a waxing professional and a business owner.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My approach to growing my clientele has always been firmly centered on consistently showcasing high-quality results, demonstrating original ideas and ingenuity, creating a safe space, all while providing my clients with exceptional care and attention in and out of the studio. Growing clientele for ‘The Bush Babe’ has required me to show up every day in search for new ways to connect with future clients. My strategy has involved various approaches, such as understanding and addressing client hesitations, needs, and requests with unwavering confidence, creating an environment imbued with acceptance of all bodies, while fostering a calm, entertaining, and visually pleasing atmosphere that people look forward to visiting.
Being able to utilize my creativity along with my passion for waxing, while educating and uplifting others has allowed me to grow a loyal and consistent clientele base over the past few years that I am immensely proud of.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
With the nature of my profession, word of mouth has consistently proven to be the most effective means of attracting new clients to my business. Information about my services spreads rapidly among clients’ friends, family, and colleagues through referrals as well as written testimonials. When I receive both referrals and glowing reviews, it validates the effort I invest in creating an outstanding overall experience, particularly in an industry where choosing the wrong provider can result in an unfavorable outcome. As a business owner, I place great importance on customer feedback, demonstrating this commitment by providing incentives that not only express my gratitude for referrals but also contribute to the establishment of trust, loyalty, and connection.
