We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maggie Mays a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maggie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
When I first started my business, I knew that having a meaningful name for my brand was essential. So I sat down to meditate and came up with the name All the tiny Pieces. Because as humans, we are all tiny pieces. Like gemstones, we are all uniquely beautiful, meaningful, and precious in our individuality. At the same time, we share a deep sense of connection. We are the wave rising from the ocean and the glimmer of stardust shining within this big, magnificent universe.
Maggie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started making jewelry at a young age and always felt an entrepreneurial drive. I didn’t start my business until my early thirties, while I was working a corporate job. I would come home from work and feel inspired to create pieces that had a deeper meaning. It connected me to my creative side again and I fell in love with hearing the stories of customers who would wear my pieces and get complimented. It made me feel like I was spreading joy through my art of making jewelry. I created a brand that is inclusive for all, my pieces are customizable to fit everyone. I also wanted to make jewelry that was good for sensitive skin, because as someone with skin sensitivities, I had a hard time finding things that worked for me that weren’t in the fine jewelry category. I wanted to make something that was accessible but natural fun and unique. I also wanted my jewelry to have a spiritual feel to it, as I was intertwining my use of natural gemstones and spiritual elements into the designs. I kind of came up with my own niche that I call “boho spiritual” because it has that type of vibe.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the people that I get to cross paths with. The vibe of my work attracts the most amazing, beautiful souls on the planet and is by far the best by-product of creating. I have my own little community of like-minded individuals that I love and appreciate deeply.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I have read dozens of books and have taken multiple courses over the last few years. My favorite books are: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, The War of Art by Steven Pressfield, The 80/20 Principle by Richard Koch, Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller, there’s many more but these are just a few of my favorites,
