We were lucky to catch up with Courtney Rose recently and have shared our conversation below.

Courtney , appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?

I can honestly say that I am happier and happiest as an artist and creative. I have given thought to just having a regular 9-5 time and time again, as a musician. There are a plethora of hurdles in life, seen and unseen, both personal and professional especially in the creative world. With some of those obstacles, I did think that it was easier to just quit and work for someone else. The last time I had this thought was when my older brother passed away a few months ago. It was a struggle physically and spiritually. My heart was broken and I was lost. I thought, “Okay, I need to go and clock in somewhere.” Knowing that it wouldn’t make me happy or content, nor would my brother have wanted me to give in. I prayed for direction and courage. I keep hearing his voice, saying that he’s still proud of me and to continue creating music. As he would say, ” You’re dope at what you do.” With those thoughts in my head, I decided that the last time was the last time and I’m all in this go around. I’m more focused than I’ve been in years. I thank God for keeping me as well as giving me the abilities to create the music and content that I do. I appreciate myself as an artist, value my craft as its precious and respect myself enough each day to commit to my goals, just as I would if I were employed by a company.

Courtney , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Courtney Rose. I’m a singer/ song writer/ poet/ rapper/ producer and licensed nail tech and hair stylist. I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and currently reside in Central Texas. As far as beauty, I’ve played in makeup, my hair and played dress-up ever since I was a little girl. That in turn led me to pursuing my license in my mid 20’s. I’m’ currently still operating in the field by day. I’ve been blessed enough to have created my own all natural haircare and skincare line, called Rose Gold. Some products include body oil, hair oil, face and lip scrub, body scrub, chapstick, body lotion, body butter, lip gloss, nail polish and newer products include a mink lash line and accessory line. Most of these products are unisex and they can be found at www.courtrose.com. I’m the beauty guru in any crisis or special occasion and I love it. As far as music goes, it’s the same. I’m from the birthplace of jazz and bounce music, so the music has always been in my soul. I began singing and writing at an early age. I took song writing seriously at the age of 14, continuously challenging myself to write songs and pretend that famous singers would sing them and if they never did, then I would sing them. In my 20’s, I went to college and made it my business to effectively network and build relationships with like individuals. That was my introduction into the professional side of the industry. What sets me apart from other artists is my soul, how I approach my music and my writing definitely. Thusly, I’m most proud of the project that I’m releasing in 2022, called Matter of the Heart. It’s an r & b album consisting of all original music and production, about things that we care about in love ( the good, the bad and the ugly). There is something for everyone t relate to, or we all know someone who has been there. You can expect to see visuals soon, which I’m excited about. What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?

Yes there is a particular mission driving my creative journey. That mission is to bring to life the marvels of my artistic mind and to inspire someone, somewhere. I also made a promise to the little girl me, that I would make her dreams come true. I’m staying committed to her.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

The most rewarding aspect for me is that my art is often times my therapy, my release, my safe space. When I channel a thought or feeling into a poem, or song, I’m instantly transported to another realm where all things feel possible and purposeful. That’s a feeling that I can’t compare to much else. And when I get to see and share what I’ve created, I have a feeling of accomplishment. That pushes me to do more.
