We recently connected with Jesùs Nùñez and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jesùs thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The process of buying art usually intimidates people, many people feel that buying art is complicated, they do not understand the prices, they do not know what size to buy. My way of appreciating my clients is to get to know them, to know more about them and their tastes, about the space where they plan to install the art, to educate them about art, to make the process entertaining and fun and in the end, to find the piece of art that they fall in love with
Jesùs, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My story is a unique one, with many ups and downs, but it’s proof that perseverance and belief in yourself is all you need to succeed. Originally from Spain,
I used street art to express myself as a teenager, as I matured, I turned to the culinary arts and pursued a two-decade-long career as an executive chef in many elite restaurants in Spain and New York City.
The New York Times called my cuisine “edible art” and compared me to famed Spanish surrealist Salvador Dali.
When COVID hit the restaurant industry hard, I went back to my roots as a visual artist and started painting abstract works of art in my home studio.
After a year had gone by, I realized it was time to make this my full-time career. I now had dreams of opening up an art gallery of my own! I had opened up restaurants in the past, so how hard could opening an art gallery be? Things were going fine until Hurricane Ida hit the town of Millburn, the flood destroyed many businesses in downtown Millburn, and amidst construction, my soon-to-be gallery space was now flooded and damaged by water. Just as I was two weeks away from opening, I had to restart the building process. This was a huge setback, physically and financially. After two months of reconstruction, I finally was able to open my contemporary art gallery doors.
As you can see, I have always been an artist, and with that comes belief in yourself, no matter what setbacks life throws at you. I simply traded in my knives for paintbrushes, but shhh… I still use spatulas to create my paintings.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We live in a complicated era on social media where it is no longer possible to differentiate what is real and what is not, and where people become obsessed with the number of likes and followers their profile has. My advice is to use social media to show who you are and what your business is in an authentic way, without worrying about how many likes you have, only worrying that your message is clear and reflects your business model. And don’t forget the most important thing, which is that the marketing you do for your business on social media is FREE, so use it.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation is built on providing high-quality service, treating each customer as an individual, creating a relationship that goes beyond just business, engaging in conversations about aspects of life that may be relevant to both parties. However, the most important aspect is to offer a quality product at a competitive price and maintain consistency in doing so.
This is my statement breakdown:
Quality of service
Personalized treatment of each customer
Relationship building beyond business
Engaging in conversation about relevant aspects of life
Offering a quality product at a competitive price
Maintaining consistency in quality and pricing
