We recently connected with Deanna Fernandez and have shared our conversation below.
Deanna, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story. I’ve been a registered nurse for over 20 years working mostly in ICU. I’ve always had an interest in aesthetics and took my first injector course in 2017. While I didn’t pursue aesthetics as a full time career at that time, I did dabble with it on a part time basis for several years. In 2021 I relocated to Weatherford to be closer to family. I worked through Covid in ICU at a local hospital downtown Ft. Worth and became very unhappy with my job and the healthcare system.
I began to pray about leaving the hospital and doing aesthetics full time. I did not want to work for anyone and had a desire in my heart to be an entrepreneur. I took a big leap of faith and trusted God as He began to open doors for me to start my own practice. God seriously paved every step of the way and has blessed me beyond belief during this exciting season of my life.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was being a new business owner. I had always been a bedside nurse working for a hospital or organization and had no experience in running my own business. My husband ran a successful business for about 12 years and was a huge help along the way. I looked to him for guidance and advise along with the help of another established business woman who mentored me as well.
I started in a small, one room studio, one client at a time while learning the ins and outs of running a business and in just 12 short months have expanded beyond the walls of that small studio and opened my own large medspa with other business women, offering numerous services for our clients.
There were many things that I learned along the way, teaching me lessons and making me wiser as a business owner. For anyone considering opening their own business it is imperative to have someone with business experience to mentor you as you begin your journey.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a wife, a mom, and a grandma. My husband and I have been together for almost 20 years.
We have 3 grown children, 2 Son in laws, 1 granddaughter, and another granddaughter on the way. We moved to Weatherford almost 2 years ago to be closer to our oldest daughter and be an active part of our granddaughters life. I love ministry, worship, traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with my family.
I was in my early 40’s when I got a botox treatment for the first time and immediately had an interest in pursuing a career in aesthetics because I loved the new confidence I had after receiving my treatment! I wanted to be able to help women feel the way I felt and that was my inspiration to open my own medspa.
I offer many services at my medspa including Botox, Fillers, Full Facial balancing, Sculptra, PDO Thread lifts, IV Hydration/Vitamin therapy, PRP/PRF Treatments, Microneedling, and chemical peels. I feel like there are many things that set me apart.
My business name RADIANT AESTHETICS comes from one of my favorite bible verses Psalms 34:5 – “Those who look to Him are Radiant, their faces are not covered in shame”. I am not shy about my faith. I try to share God’s love and light to everyone I encounter and have created a space at my medspa that is welcoming and peaceful. My prayer is that everyone who comes through my door feels God’s presence.
I love getting to know my clients and building a relationship with them.
I believe that everyone is naturally beautiful and unique, but I also understand that some people have insecurities that can hold them back in their life. My purpose at Radiant Aesthetics is to enhance your own natural beauty and help give women the confidence that they deserve so that they leave my studio feeling radiant!
My clients are my billboard and word of mouth. I focus on subtle and natural results, never over-doing anyone. Injectables should be undetectable and to achieve that it’s important to have an excellent knowledge of anatomy & rheaology, attend regular trainings to stay up to date on the latest injection techniques and safety guidelines, and spend time with your clients to get to know them, and what bothers them. After doing a complete assessment, we will go over a treatment plan together.
I love spending the extra time to educate my clients to help them gain a better understanding of their treatment.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I was called to be a nurse.
I love God and I love people.
I have always been passionate about helping others and being the hands and feet of Christ and I have been able to do that in an intimate and unique way as a nurse. In the 20+ years of my nursing career I have had many encounters with sick people, well people, and their families which has given me countless opportunities for ministry and care. I love nursing and if I had the chance to do it all over again I’d choose nursing again!.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that relationships are so important, One of my personal business goals is to build relationships with my clients and to develop trust with them. I want my clients to feel valued and know that I am honored that they chose me to be their injector. It’s a big deal to let someone inject your face and I want them to feel like they chose the right person so I go the extra mile to make sure of that. I don’t over book my appointments because I never want them to feel rushed. We get to know each other and I listen to them to find out what bothers them and what their aesthetic goals are. I do a thorough assessment and we come up with a treatment plan together. I also spend a good amount of time educating them so that they are well informed and understand everything. My clients not only appreciate these character traits about me but they tell others as well which has been monumental in the success of my business.
