We were lucky to catch up with Nelson Estevez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nelson thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My First Dollar earned as a creative was performing as a background performer in a major feature film. This was a defining moment for me since this gig fed my curiosity of pursuing an acting career. The most memorable dollar for me was when I booked my first principal commercial ad. I couldn’t grasp the amount of money that was made in those few days.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Although born and raised in NYC, I primarily started as a working actor in Los Angeles. In this line of business, you are always in the process of auditioning or “looking for” your next job/role. I made a creative decision to also create opportunities and have my perspective told through visuals and audio by creating content such as short films, upcoming features, and tv/episodic through online distribution/streaming. The process of auditioning and creating content has many ups and downs but once the final product is finished, it can be very rewarding. One common struggle is finding the finances or investors in order to complete these projects. As a new upcoming filmmaker it can be challenging since you cannot present a body of work in proving to sponsors that one can execute and create quality content.
Another struggle can be finding the right team players in front and behind the camera. Filmmaking is a collective effort and every team member has to be on the same page in the creative process.

What sets us apart from others is the cultural perspectives in our upcoming stories. We are excited to bring more awareness to the Caribbean-American culture through our stories and find a connectivity in order to attract other demographics.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me as a creative or artist is the ability to inspire, educate, and/or move people through your work or creative outlet.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I mainly built my audience through my walks of life through my personal life and career. I am now generating more viers/followers through the current TV series that I work in so the advice I would give is to stay your path and keep your social media presence genuine to you and your journey/brand. I am still building and learning while trying to keep up with all of the social media updates and trends, while managing all of the other elements with working in entertainment. It is a marathon and not a race so you will see the growth as long as you stay consistent.
