Laura, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
If you want to be successful, you must have faith in yourself. Don’t let fear stop you – confront it and explore the many opportunities that come with pursuing your ambitions. Of course, it will require a lot of hard work, so make sure you’re dedicating enough time and effort to achieve your goals. And always remain open to learning and growing – that’s how you’ll continue to excel.
An example of overcoming fear to succeed is what I considered before launching my business. I had read “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Tim Ferriss. At the beginning of the book, there is an exercise where you list your dream goals, the steps to achieve them, and the associated costs. Once you have identified your top goals and the necessary actions to achieve them, you write down the best and worst-case scenarios that could happen if you were to pursue your dreams. After doing this exercise, my worst-case scenario was not earning enough money and having to move back in with my mother.
Although it took me some time to think it over, I eventually decided that if I didn’t end up on the streets, launching my business was worth the risk of living with my mom again. I knew I could always get back on my feet and look for another job or try a different company if my first business venture didn’t work out.
After twelve years, my team and I have helped businesses achieve goals from brand awareness to landing multi-million dollar contracts.

I launched Crackerjack Scribe more than a decade ago. My team and I have helped many businesses, from real estate and health companies to startups and B2B businesses, succeed in their industries by using the latest digital marketing strategies to establish a strong brand presence, drive traffic, and generate leads.
How We Got Started
I served as associate publisher and editor for The Malibu Times Newspaper and Magazine for over a decade. During this time, I also pursued tango dancing as a hobby. As an early adopter of digital marketing, I used various digital platforms, including Facebook, to promote the Argentine Tango events I organized. I also implemented social media and email marketing into The Malibu Times’ overall editorial and sales marketing program.
Although I enjoyed my job as a journalist, especially the creative aspect of producing a magazine from scratch, I wanted to work remotely to spend more time with my family. Leveraging my skills in journalism and marketing, I founded Crackerjack Scribe more than 12 years ago to work independently. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Before expanding my business beyond Malibu, I established myself as a reputable editor and associate publisher at The Malibu Times Newspaper and Magazine. Additionally, I created a website that’s easy to find on search engines, regularly wrote blog posts, and shared relevant content on my social media channels to attract more interest in my work.
One essential ingredient that helped me build my reputation was asking my Malibu and LA-area clients to leave reviews on publicly visible platforms like Google Business, Yelp, LinkedIn, and other similar platforms. I also published these reviews on my website. Positive reviews are crucial in building a solid reputation, but if you don’t have clients, you can start by posting valuable content and sharing it with your audience.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
I get clients through different sources, including personal referrals, but most have come from the digital marketing strategies I use for my clients. It’s a confirmation that SEO does work as people find my website looking for marketing services. They convert into leads because of the valuable content they find on my site. I also run campaigns using organic and paid methods on social media.
However, the key to my success is producing consistent content on my blog that resonates with my target audience. I offer tips and advice; some visitors download my ebooks or other marketing tools. Others realize that they don’t have the time or skills to handle their marketing, so they entrust my agency to do the work for them.
