Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shakiria Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shakiria , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
Growing up I was raised by a single mother and a younger sister up until about 8 years old where my mother got married . I watched my mother work hard and provide for us by herself and never skipped a beat on making sure I enjoyed my childhood and stayed on the right track of learning in school. I’m thankful my parents raised my sibling and I to strive for EXCELLENCE and to work hard for what we want. My sister and I used to clean elderly ladies houses from our church as a little side job and use the money to buy whatever we wanted and I’m grateful for learning that independence. We wasn’t allowed to out to parties or to partake in outside activities that wasn’t of my parents liking. We were at church every Sunday and every Tuesday. I was taught how to pray when times got tough and when life was good to still give God recognition. I was a small business owner at 24 years old , a homeowner at 26 years old and I’m currently 28 and working on building my next home and a multi business owner.

Shakiria , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello Everyone ! I’m Shakiria Johnson and I am the CEO of Mesmerizing Minx LLC. As a single mother of 2 and was working 2 jobs, I needed something else to bring in another stream of income. 3 years ago, God gave me the idea of doing lash extensions in a dream and when I woke up I found a trainer and was certified the SAME DAY! I’m thankful I took a leap of faith and made the decision to start my own business. Of course it took a lot of discipline with marketing, advertising and getting clientele. I offered discounted pricing for models and even raffles to get my name out there and to also practice and perfect my work. Months I would go with clients here and there , but I never stopped continuing my business. I added mink lash strips to my website and would do party packs for parties or events to add on more to my business than just servicing lash extensions. I also added colored last extensions and Lash Training for Certification. I’m all about comfort for my clients , so I invested in a reclining massage chair , I provide wine and water for my clients, blankets and pillows ! Lol

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Throughout the years, I’ve had setbacks and come ups and I’ve learned that marketing through social media is the most effective way of growing clientele. I joined groups in my surrounding area to promote my business and post my work consistently. I make flyers during holidays to offer discounted services and I’ve also offered discounted Training for Youth groups. I’ve found that Facebook, Instagram, and Tik Tok are the top 3 platforms for marketing . I take advantage of boosting my posts and running Facebook and Instagram ads. Also, word of mouth is effective. MODELS, MODELS, MODELS !! Exposure from other popular social media influencers is also a great strategy for growing clientele.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation within my market is my genuine personality towards my clients and the positive energy I give on all social media platforms. I keep all of my posts strictly about business and I don’t post about politics, debates, or bad experiences with clients. I firmly believe great customer service and 100% customer satisfaction will keep clients coming back and referring others,
