We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittany Jugert a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittany, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
A defining moment for me was when I met the woman that would later become my personal trainer. I had spent months in the gym wandering aimlessly and feeling lost, getting conflicting advice, and having gone through multiple trainers that were just not the right fit for me. From being told that I needed to lose 20 lbs, to doing hours of cardio, to not eating more than 12oo calories a day, I was discouraged and confused. One day at the gym, I saw a woman that had an incredible physique and decided to ask her for some direction. She happened to be a personal trainer and nutritionist. She taught me to focus on my overall health, that improving my body composition was more important than the number on the scale. She encouraged me to make healthier food choices to fuel my body and aid in recovery. I no longer spent countless hours on the cardio equipment but instead learned how to weight train. I started to look and feel better than I ever had. After a year of working with her, I knew that I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with other women and hopefully change the trajectory of their lives, the way that she had changed mine.
Brittany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a certified fitness trainer, nutrition specialist, and health coach. I am a wife and mother of 2 boys. Always active and in sports as a kid, I found the gym and was “bit by the bug” so to say. From competing in a bodybuilding competition to recovering from 2 c-sections, I can relate to most levels of fitness.
I have an understanding of extreme eating and training, and also what it feels like to be a mom and allow myself grace and time to rebuild my body after pregnancies. My method is balance, moderation, and consistency will help you to achieve your goals and maintain a healthy and happy lifestyle.
I believe that with proper exercise routine, nutrition plan and the right mindset, anyone can achieve life long success. Anything worth achieving in life takes hard work and knowledge, there is no “quick” or “easy” road there, you have to work hard to earn it. I hope to help you become the best version of YOU and live your healthiest life!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I was blown away at the amount of women who told me I would never have a nice body after I had kids. It made me a bit nervous until I saw other moms that had phenomenal physiques. Then I knew it could be done, and that’s all I needed to know. My boys were both delivered by c-sections. I had horrible pregnancies and could not workout during either. By the time I was actually cleared to exercise I felt completely discouraged. I can relate to anyone who’s looked in the mirror and thought, how am I ever going to fix this?!?! I remember my very 1st workout back, I could not complete 1 push up, and I sat there and cried. I had lost SO much strength. But, I wanted my kids to think their mom was strong and someone they could draw strength from. So I worked hard, consistently. With the right mindset, discipline, and consistency, you CAN achieve your goals.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
It goes without saying that having the knowledge and experience to guide clients through proper training and nutrition is a major key in success. However, when I ask my clients about what has helped them to be successful, there is usually a response along the lines of being relatable to them. I try to help my clients find the right balance of allowing themselves grace when they need it, but also holding them accountable to their goals. I can relate to the challenges of being a mom, wife, and business owner, and the struggle of trying to improve or maintain a healthy body and mind. I think my clients feel comfortable to share their truths, struggles, and challenges with me, without judgement, as most of the time I can tell them “me too.” And together we formulate a plan that fits their lifestyle.
