We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Vempre Terrell Jr. . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Vempre below.
Hi Vempre, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is a word that is clearly defined in some situations, but difficult to define in other situations. A person may see an individual who is pursuing a particular goal and view that individual as someone who is successful. However, when the same person pursues the same goal for themselves, the definition of success may either be removed from his or her vocabulary, or gain a totally different definition. One word is able to clearly define what it takes to be successful: faith. To be successful, it takes having faith in every set of circumstances. Whether a difficult situation or a simple situation, a person must have faith. Simply having faith the size of a mustard seed will sow the seeds needed for success.
Vempre, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
One of the best things that people know about me is that I am a man who greatly believes in what faith will do in a person’s life. Whether I’ve known another individual for a long period of time, or if we’ve met for the first time, others tend to understand this about me. So many people simply view how situations appear to the natural eye, but I am someone who views my situations through the eyes of faith, which is a key reason why I gave my first book the title “The Eyes of Faith.” I don’t just sit back and see my glass in life as being half empty. I see my glass in life as half full, and I stand up to make the effort to do my best to make it become full.
Throughout my life, keeping a journal has been a form of expression for me. As I matured in age, I began to connect my words of expression with Bible scriptures. With this, I wrote my first book, “The Eyes of Faith.” Keeping a journal matured into me writing books, songs, poetry, and speeches. I began writing speeches to serve as points of encouragement for others, and I became a motivational speaker. Whether speaker to 2 or 2,000 people, I do my best to inspire my listeners.
Many people who have read my works or listened to me as a motivational speaker have told me how much of a need they’ve had for an encouraging word in their lives. It is often not known that people who appear on the outside to be strong and stable are actually in need of inspiration within their spirits. As such, I do my best to allow my personal expression to serve as a point of motivation for anyone who reads my work or listens to me speak. Even if a person turns to a random page in a book that I’ve written, I want it to serve as a means of inspiration for that person.
One of the best things that I believe that sets me apart from others is my ability to put myself in another person’s shoes, regardless who the person happens to be. Some people will only reach out to others who are in a certain bracket of discussion. On the other hand, I reach out to those who are impoverished, homeless, incarcerated, at-risk, don’t yet know the Lord, already know the Lord, or whatever the case happens to be.
Without a doubt, I am able to say that my connection to the Lord is the thing that makes me most proud when it comes to my life. There have been days when I’ve been disappointed, doubtful, and discouraged to the extent that I haven’t known what to do. To recover from this, I would first kneel in prayer to the Lord. I’d then open my Bible to familiarize myself additionally with the Word of God. After this, I’d pick up a pen and piece of paper to express myself through the art of writing. This speaks to what I want my future followers to know about me. My work is the product of God speaking to me and speaking through me. As they read the pages of my books and listen to me as a motivational speaker, I want them to come away with encouragement and reassurance that they will apply in their lives. I want my supporters to see inspiration when they see the name VEMPRE TERRELL, JR.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal driving my passion for inspirational writing and motivational speaking is to serve as an encouragement to as many people who I am able to reach. There are times in life when people settle for much less than what they can do, or even take their lives when they feel like life becomes overwhelming. Circumstances like these are what I do my best to use my passion for writing to combat. At many points in time, all it takes for a person is to have a word of encouragement to steer them back on the right track in life. This is something that I do my best to do. I know what it has been like for me at points in my life when I have felt like life’s hard times were too much to bear, and I should just throw my hands up and concede defeat. Days like these were when I felt as if failure was the best option. Nevertheless, each of these points ended with God blessing me with encouragement and motivating me to fight the good fight. As such, the tide turned in my favor. Knowing this, my goal driving my creative journey as an author and motivational speaker is to help others see the greatness that lives within them, despite how their situations may seem on the surface.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an author and motivational speaker is knowing that I have positively impacted the lives of others. At a book signing, I had the chance to meet a man who informed me about looking at the situation of him being laid off through the eyes of faith. He took a skill that he had been using at the company where he was working and opened his own business using that skill. Within months, his business became highly successful, and he loved being his own boss. He made it known that this would have never happened if he simply saw the negative in being laid off instead of having faith and taking the risk of opening his own business. Having the knowledge that someone who read a book that I wrote was so inspired that he opened his own business was a great reward for me.
