We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maritza Chagolla. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maritza below.
Maritza, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My hero would be my mother Alicia Miramontes, coming from a household of 10 children can be hard, but losing one of your parents at such a young age will mark you forever. After my grandfather passing away, she had no other option but to leave her hometown in Zacatecas and immigrate to California to financially support her family. My mother has always worked in the floral industry, when she moved to California she began to work at floral shops and cleaned houses as her second job. Years later she meets my father, and they decide to start a family in another town far away from where she was. She decides to leave her passion and just focus in one job and her family. They say that things happen for a reason, and I can totally understand it now as I’m older. My father got injured at work and was not able to walk or work for a few years. In the meantime, my mother had to find a side hustle and it was not a surprised she decided to back to the floral industry. I was about 6 years old when all this happened. I didn’t understand what was going on, but I loved seen my mom create. We would go door by door offering her creations. Some would support us; some would judge us but that did not stop her. As I got older and grew so did our small business, I decided. wanted to learn everything she knew at such a young age; she taught me everything she knew with so much love and appreciation that her dreams also because mine. Now instead of having one person do all the floral designs now we had two. Our small business has become one of my biggest projects in life. It is my job to share her story with all of you. A story of a women that never gave up despite the duftites of life. She is no longer here with us on earth to see her dreams come true. but her legacy will live on forever.
Maritza, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
This business started as a necessity but has become one of my biggest passions in life. Decoraciones Maritza is a family business. everything we do involves each other. My clients know that I go above and beyond to provide the best service. Flowers can communicate many emotions whether it’s an anniversary or funeral we can help you create the perfect arrangement. When you request a service from us, I want you to feel like family. I want my customers to feel comfortable asking questions and suggestions as well as recommendations. I’m really proud that we had created a small community for Decoraciones Maritza, and that is thanks to the people that tag us, recommend us and share our work in social medias. We recently started a small project which is called “Make Someone Smile” the purpose of this project is to make someone’s day. Our followers get to nominate someone to receive flowers from us. It’s an especially nice feeling when receiving flowers unexpectedly, and while we do this project, we also get to know our clients and followers a little more, building those beautiful relationships.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience is one of the most difficult things to do as a business owner, but once you have your clientele. they won’t look for anyone else. A year ago, our Facebook page got hacked and I was really worried that I was going to lose all of my years of hard work and dedication. Thankfully I was able to create another account although I had to start from scratch, this lesson taught me that my clients are loyal and know who Decoraciones Maritza is, and some are even able to detect my work when it’s in another page. That is the beauty of building your audience. My advice to anyone starting is,be creative and active, social media is a free platform where you can grow and promote your business. Take advantage of it.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy of building your clientele is consistent communication. If you don’t do that, they will lose interest. You have to be clear with your audience, be transparent let them know when you are available, when you have a sale. and post often and keep your page and work consistent. Everyone loves new and creative ideas, show the world what you are capable of.
