Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Our Sea. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Our Sea, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
It takes time to develop any skill and even longer to develop a host of skills to provide professional services to the public. I started learning music very young with the piano and trumpet. By the time I was in High School I was writing music for my band director. Learning the skill of music, photography, and design is the tip of what it means to be a mogul. The business is another beast. I went to MTSU and learned music business through the Mass Communication program. I have had to learn more in depth as I started to sale products and services. I don’t live in the what if’s and I don’t allow the what was to determine what will be. I would do everything the exact same way to learn but I’d change my perspective on opportunity. In order to be successful you must learn to collaborate with unlikely individuals to attain the desired outcome the vision warrents. Most creatives are in their own way with opportunities and it cost them neccessary relationships in the future. I have had to learn that the hard way, but I needed those lessons to develop into the person I am today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am an entertainment mogul and that means I am responsible for every aspect of presenting the High Class Hustle lifestyle creatively. High Class Hustle was created to be a record label by myself and my college friends, but was revived into a lifestyle brand in Atlanta. My latest work is Bless You available on all platforms. It is a fun song about a unique Hustlas mindset necessary for continued growth. My journey has been one of many valleys, challenges, and unfair circumstances, but also one of immeasurable favor. I’ve learned that vision and sight almost never align. Right when you believe in your sight, meaning the way circumstances look, vision interrupts with its on plans to carry me higher. I learned in 6th grade from my math teacher Mr. Otis nothing beats a failure but a try. That saying is poetic in theory but challenging in practice. I’d like to encourage anyone who has vision to try and when you’ve won or learned a lesson reload and try again.
Have you ever had to pivot?
You will always have to pivot if you want to win the game. Outside of creative focus and the right opportunities I believe hard work is necessary to developing success. I’ve been working towards my purpose since Freshman year of High School. Music has always been my first love but life has taught me how switch courses and learn other creative avenues. When I moved to ATL I had to find a way to support my music career, and that shifted me to creating custom 1of1 designs. The pivot is the proof that what you will readjust to any circumstance life throws your way to achieve the vision. I don’t look for perfection in anything but I do look for purpose. In any situation there is an learning opportunity and the pivot happens when you gain wisdom from the lessons.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Risk are necessary evils in business. My entire career is a risk. There’s no college class or trade school that provides a stream line to success in any area of art. It is the moments where it doesn’t make money or sense that challenge us the most. Unwavering faith in God is what it takes. So when a custom piece is purchased, or a instagram follower expresses how my music gets their day moving in a positive direction, or I am able to educate a peer in a specific skill area. I feel gratitude for my creativity being of value. There’s also the moment when the creative process is aligning and everything is working in favor of the vision that makes being a creative rewarding. Lastly when creatives partner on a project and the pheramone of a hit enters the room; that’s rewarding as well.
