We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Kasual Kas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Kasual below.
Kasual, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In the music industry, the major labels rely heavily on viral trends and analytics and not on artist creative development. I work with creatives based on what I feel their long term potential is and that cannot always be determined by numbers or algorithms. When I find someone with talent, I will help them grow their career from the ground up.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I always had a passion for music and throughout my journey I have worn many different hats and filled many roles. I began my career in the music industry as an artist signed to a major label. After pivoting from the creative side of the industry, I worked as A&R, talent manager, and music supervisor for various labels and companies. From there, I realized that my strengths were in recognizing talent, developing it, and creating direct paths for creatives to earn from their talents. This led to the creation of my own entertainment management company, Big Wins Only. I help my clients retain ownership of their vision and understand the business behind it in order to reach their goals.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I pride myself on always being transparent and putting the goals and needs of my clients first. I feel it is of the utmost importance to educate and share my knowledge with others. With that, my clients and network can always be confident that I have their best interest in mind. I have spent many years curating relationships between industry big names and ground level creatives, thus bridging the gap between the two.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Before starting my own company, I worked as an A&R for a boutique music production company. I would meet with prospective clients everyday and facilitate mutually beneficial relationships. One day, I took a meeting with a young creative that had no following, budget, or track record of earning but I saw so much potential and a fire was ignited in me. The company I was working for was not interested in collaborating with this creative but I had a vision and knew I wanted this person to be a part of it. I took a leap of faith, left the company and with so many unknowns, set out on my own forming Big Wins Only. From there, this client has been a top earner, went on to have a great deal of commercial success, including a #1 Billboard album.
