We recently connected with Katie Maher and have shared our conversation below.
Katie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Creating original art every day is similar to athletic training. The hardest part is showing up everyday. Knowing that inspiration often comes after you get started. If you keep your focus on enjoying the process rather than the end product, and leave your own judgment out of it, you won’t loose enthusiasm, you’ll gain momentum.

Katie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I paint for the joy of it. The feeling of freedom and flow. To tap into the creative energy and see what happens. An expression of energy and life.
I’m always surprised at the end result and inspired to try again.
Endlessly grateful to the photographers that have given me permission to use their work as references for my paintings.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Carl Ortman is my biggest influence in this industry. He pulled me away from my tattoo shop and showed me how to tap into source and let it paint through me. The business side takes care of itself when people can feel the energy in the pieces.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Getting out of my own way. Being genuine with people. Offering something unique.
