Joshua, appreciate you joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I personally can count on one hand how many times ive asked a friend to support. I don’t believe in that because support is so free. The last time i reached out to a ” friend ” to share my post , they said ok then never did it . The reason they gave me was that i asked and they felt like i rushed them but then that same person 2 days later reposted a celebrity starting a new business. I definitely look at how people would be in comments, sharing, liking everything a celebrity post but a friend only get a like . i just feel like thats fake love.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Ok well my brand name is ” Creole Luther King.” The name actually came from someone. Around 20-4-2018 i was doing motivational videos because i wanted to be a speaker. i got know for being a life coach then boom i was hungry one day after making a speaking video. I was going to school in Etx & a pound of crawfish was $12. So i said i would buy some live seafood & try to sell it cheaper for the other students. no cooking experience or anything lol. i tried it & people loved it so i just sold crawfish plates for $5 then long story short that lead to people asking what else i can cook besides seafood & then boom we here yea.. What makes me different from others is that i cook everything from scratch like everything! i worked at a hands on cooking restaurant in houston & they taught me a lot but the main thing was cooking things from scratch. From seasoning to heavy cream. It gives the food a different flavor that most cooks lack because they depend on already packaged ingredients. Im proud on how i grew as a chef. The smallest things make me happy with cooking like the right crunch to banana flambe lol . It’s definitely tough because a lot of people not patient. they expect the unbelievable things. They want you to be unhuman basically but i love it because it teaches me life lessons like patience. I want people to look at my business & taste a part of New orleans. The people that knows me know my love for my birth place. I feel like we have the best flavors & food ideas. When you think Creole/Cajun food you think of me. So Creole (im from new orleans its in my blood literally ) Luther (martin luther king was a political philosopher who spoke great things & his messages was literally life changing) King ( In christ i am a King so i carry myself as such.) Any advice for managing a team?
I would definitely say that the role of CEO is not easy so if you are not ready please dont rush it. Your team depends on you. Also if you do have a team & hire some of yours , you have to understand that you have a business & you have to move as such. If you or them cant understand the difference between friend & boss than i dont think you should. Lastly i think you should always have honesty & loyal team members. the love & energy you have on your team will always show up on your product you put out for sure.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
i think what helped me build was my hard work honestly. i treated it like a real job because it is if i want this for life. i looked at it like i was clocking in at 9 and leaving at 5 each day literally. Then my work shows and promotes itself. i dont try to put anything put that i dont believe in, dont like, wouldnt do , wouldnt buy, don’t follow etc . thats why i always tell people to judge me from my social media because whatever they see is me . i am 1000 percent transparent. im that way because someone else probably thinking or going through that same situation and scared to speak up or ask for help. im just doing it for those people
