Alright, Carlos thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
Starting an idea can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Music always spoke to me ever since I was a child and I always wanted to make an impact not just in my life but others as well. As I became seasoned in the music business, I went on to sell over 30 million records as a Grammy award winning songwriter. I started to take notice that most independent artists didn’t have as much access to major songwriters and producers in the music business. So I came up with the idea to create a site and service that caters to the indie artist with modest budgets. This allows them to get amazing music, mixing & mastering and music videos for their next project. I began hiring a team of amazing programmers to create the vision that songneeds.com represents. It took 2 long years of building, breaking down and building again to be the site that you see today. Now we have hundreds of ready made demos and Chart topping creatives to choose from to help artists musical vision come to life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Carlos Battey but everyone knows me as Los aka Jackie’s Boy. I am a Multi-Platinum Grammy winning singer/songwriter and entrepreneur. I started as a street performer in the streets of Savannah, Georgia. I carried this over to Los Angeles when I moved there at 19 years old. I was discovered by an A&R street performing and it was this that gave me my big break into the music industry. Since then I have gone on to write for artists such as Boyz II Men, Charlie Wilson, Flo Rida, LIL Wayne and Madonna. I now have created a site called songneeds.com that helps independent artists get songs, mixing and music videos that fit in within their budget. Creating startups have been a passion of mine and watching the service be utilized is truly a dream come true.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I feel self awareness is essential to growth and I attribute it to the person I’ve become. I strive to treat everyone with respect and love, not to be confused as a push over or a person that says yes to everything. I have a beautiful family whom I love and adore! They have helped me become the man I am today through our trials and tribulations. I don’t shy away from my setbacks. My goal is to use them, learn from them and allow them to teach me how to lead with love, transparency and truth. I pride myself on being authentic and I feel it is the foundation on which my trusted reputation was built.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Watching the creative process go from thought, to existence, to something that becomes part of our daily lives is one of the most thrilling and rewarding experiences of being a creative. Hearing a song that was created out of thin air become a top charting masterpiece that is played all over the world is beyond describable. I feel this very same way as a business owner with my baby Songneeds.com. It was a simple thought that is now reaching artists all over the world allowing their dreams to come to life.
