Dana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Being a business owner, I feel it is very important to show gratitude to all of my clients. After each of my events I write a personal thank you note and mail it to them. Clients love to receive “real” mail. A cute card, thoughtful stamp and the words that reflect your care and details that stood out to make their event special, will stay with your clients and make them feel their business was very much appreciated. Many of my return clients will comment to me how nice it was to receive my thank you card!
Dana, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Love what you do, the best advice that I share with people who ask me how I do what I do! If you love what you do, then it is always waonderful. Event planning is stressful, listed nationwide in the top 5 most stressful jobs, so you better love it! I am an event planner and designer. I produce events, hire teams, interact with all types of vendors and cover the day to interface between the professionals and all the guests. I create a calm mood for the getting ready time, excitement for the celebration and easy exits. I love to design with a client to create the room of their dreams. Working with colors and creating mood boards to convey the details! We design their floral and create a sample with them prior to the event.
People often say that working with me gives them peace of mind. I always try to make sure that my clients feel taken care of. The nice part of being an owner operator, is I am the last say, I am mot looking to cut corners or make things move faster, I always put my clients needs before everyone else’s!
I am super proud of the teams that we assemble for events, I cannot take credit for any event as it takes my village to bring them all to the finish line. We strive for excellence in every detail. My team knows how I am, I will see it all and I don’t mind taking the time to make it as perfect as possible!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When you are a designer and planner you have a unique roll to learn who your clients are and what details can make them happy and what details they will look for the most rewarding parts of what comes out of all the work we do along the way would be the look of joy that I know I am directly responsible for. Bringing joy to a family or couple makes everything that was a challenge or difficult along the way worth it! In order to be successful and create many events you must bring joy to someone else and that makes me happy!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Truth – The best way to grow with clients is to be the honest and transparent business person. We all know that business is about profit, be ok with saying that. Own your worth! Then help your clients clearly understand that your work and knowledge has benefit to them. I believe that if clients understand that you are working for them and want them to be a part of your process and you are working to do the very best for them, then they will be comfortable with all that you offer and do! Listen you are never going to please every customer and you are certainly not the right fit for everyone that calls your phone, but if you are clear, honest and worthy you will always work well and grow your client base because people love to share with their friends when they have had a good experience
