We were lucky to catch up with Aisha Mashwani recently and have shared our conversation below.
Aisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I have been a nurse for ovr 10 years. I started out as a pediatric nurse, then moved on to pediatric anesthesia and surgery before settling into the Emergency Room around 5 years ago. As a nurse you come into contact with many physicians over the course of your career and none stand out to me more than Dr Rosines at Village Emergency Centers. Dr Rosines was the Chief Medical Officer for the company and ran between all five of their centers. I was in constant awe of his dedication to the company and to the delivery of appropriate care to every patient seen in one of their emergency rooms. In addition to managing 25 physicians at 5 centers, he frequently worked shifts himself and had one of the most caring and attentive bedside manners I have witnessed. Each and every patient who he saw left the ER feeling very well taken care of. For me personally, as nurse who was new to the ER world, he wouldn’t hesitate to stop, teach, and explain exactly what he was doing and why. I learned so much from those experiences.
The impact from those interactions have lasted with me til this day and have shaped me as nurse. In fact, when I left the ER to start Luxe Mobile IV, it should be no surprise that I hired Dr Rosines as my medical director and to oversee the medical care delivered by the company.
Aisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Nursing has been a passion for me since a young age. Caring for people who are in need is a motivation for me and is the fuel that keeps me going. After years of working in traditional settings from offices to ORs to ERs, I pursued the idea of providing patients with a convenient method to get the care they need in the comfort of their own homes.
Many ailments from flus to stomach bugs to hangovers cause patients immense discomfort and yet can be failry easily treated with IV fluids and simple medications. Waiting 3-5 hours for this type of care in a busy ER while generating a $5000 bill is certainly not the ideal situation for these patients who aren’t feeling their best. Hence, Luxe Mobile IV, provides a solution to this issue by delivering the same care to patients in more comfortable environment on their time and terms. Our nurses come to the pateint’s home and provide personalized concierge service. Our physician is contacted for EVERY single IV treatment we deliver at Luxe because the quality of care given to our patients is paramount above else.
Aside from those with acute ailments, we can also provide some new and exciting treatments like NAD+ therapy which replenishes the body’s supply of NAD, a molecule that decreases with age. While some believe NAD+ therapy is the next fountain of youth, it has already been shown to have a positive effect on those suffering neurodegenerative or addiction disorders by helping the brain heal its damaged pathways. Many other exciting uses for this novel treatment are currently being studied.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think that in the field of nursing proper training and knowledge is key towards being able to provide patients with appropriate care. However, it is compassion and empathy that are the secret ingredients that separate the average from the superlatives in the world of health care. Understanding your patients’ needs and feelings is of ultimate importance in delivering a quality experience to them.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
This is an easy one: Absolutely! I love my profession and feel blessed to be able to participate in the healthcare field provding treatments to those in need.
